Title: British Gp
Post by: chrisgixer on 04 July 2015, 14:07:24
Without giving too much away

Mercs as you might expect, but Williams beat Ferrari to 3rd and 4th. This pleases me greatly. :y

Is it over yet?  Just got back from Oxford way, and seen loads of people dressed like Ninja Turtles seeing if their bikes are as quick as an F1 car down the A43....

Yeah we all have to bear the brunt of progress don't we. I reckon they should close the TT course and extend Silverstone by another 30 odd miles around Brackley. Yes especially Brackley. ;D Round all those lovely lanes certain locals use as a personal race track trying to see if their car behaves like the General Lee. :P. YEEEEEEHAARRRR ;D

In fact, I reckon they should build a third circuit, to emulate the Nordschliefe. But with proper Tarmac run offs and air fence for the bikers. Yeeeeah that's the spirit.

All the Irish road racing and Northwest 200 should be there as well. :y

Don't forget to add a disabled lane to this super dooper Brackley circuit for mobility scooters and Mclaren F1s. :-[ :-[ :-[

And Heathrow, bah!, amateurs. I believe Silverstone holds the record for being the busiest airport in the world.  And because they are all helichoppers, they are noisy little freckers.

And for what, so people can see a dull, boring line of poofter F1 drivers not overtake.

I take it you're not a fan then  ;)
I've been to one GP (at Silverstone) and I have to say that the viewing experience is not as good as watching on TV

Yeahs excellent. Fantastic sport. Dont be such a miserable neighbour. ... And after all the trouble you caused too ;D

They actually look quick in the corners today, for a change. :)

F1 rocks! :y

Was there anyone else in it? Don't recall seeing much of anyone below 4th.

But a good result :y

I would like to see Williams make a fight of it, it's a bit boring. As long as Ferrari stay where they are and the kraut stays behind Lewis.

I'm sure there was some fighting further back, but guessing the F1 film team were mostly just showing the first 4, whoever they were at any point.

I've got a question for F1 followers. Why do they go out on the track, when all of the 'overtaking' seems to occur in the pits these days? ::) ::) ::) ::)

To keep the safety car company....

It's a fair point. I blame tyres myself. Or rather, the rules that govern the tyre construction regs.

There was a programme on TV today around Noon that played back 3 'classic' races at Silverstone from the past - now they were more interesting

It's aero that's the problem. Look back historically. The moment they started banning this and that to slow the cars down was when it went down hill. And that point was ground effect, and aerodynamics.

Rosburg said himself it was impossible to pass. At Silverstone, the most open and free flowing circuit on the calendar. Add in restrictions on grip longevity purely to allow pit stops and hence over taking and its oppsed as a challenge.

But F1 is cars with aerodynamics. Change the aero rules and you change F1. Every other disciplin is taken in Motorsport. So do away with aero you do away with f1. And round and round And round it goes where it stops nobody knows.

Basically that's F1. Accept it. Deal with it, and move on. I love it personally. Provided the speed comes across on TV. Which it absolutely opposing well dies not. :(

Aero and downforce are there for a good reason, not just to allow the cars to go round corners faster, but to slow them down on the longer straights as the circuits runoff areas could not cope with much higher speeds.

Ironically massively aerodynamically inferior MotoGP bikes are now faster on long straights, at about 217mph at Mugello.

Oh and in MotoGp overtaking is allowed as well. :y :y :y Last lap antics in Moto3 are always entertaining, when 7 or more riders want the same bit of tarmac ;D ;D ;D where they are all going for the win. :y :y :y

But why is it "allowed" Rods? Is it because motogp bikes don't loose grip when they come up behind the guy in front ? (Answer, yes it is ;) )

Take that grip away from an F1 car and it won't turn in/stop/or have any lateral grip at all. As the wings on the car in front have removed all the air for the car behind. (Apologies if that's an overly obvious statement)

iirc F1 cars like this used to go round corners and overtake each other with not a wing in sight. :) :) :)

So take away most of the artificial aero stuff and then they will be able to overtake again. :y :y :y

Horses for courses and wings have their place, but to watch public demonstrations of those in action, I go to something called an 'airshow'. :P :P :P

So you want to make f1 into what is now formula junior. That formula already exists and its archaic and dull.

I think you'll find motor sport has moved on since you last looked Rods. ;D Several championships have filled the space left as F1 progressed. This leaves F1 high and dry if it can't sort itself out.
