Certainly all facelift petrol models have a chip in the key casing and a transponder ring on the ignition barrel. These are both uniquely coded to the engine Ecu and are completely independent of the Alarm/locking systems systems.

Diesels might do summat different due to the way the engine works, and likewise earlier cars might have different systems according to age/model :-\

I should imagine that the preface Omega's have the transponder chips in the key, the facelifts all have the transponder chips regardless of specification...

I can only compare to the Vectra B where they all have the transponder chips in the keys....

Earlier cars had a separate fob forcthe remote locking and no chip in the key... Might have been one of the details which changed in '95, but equally could have been as late as '97/8 :-\
