Title: Dual Mass Flywheel 2.2 Z22XE
Post by: Andy A on 09 July 2015, 20:18:08
I was going to do my own clutch replacement but I can't get under the car due to my health.

I went to my local garage and was quoted £360. Includes gear box oil, 2 piece clutch kit and a slave cylinder plus 2 hours labor.

If the duel mass flywheel needs replacing it will be another £427.19

I was told that if its weeping then it will have to be replaced and if not leave it alone, if the dual mass flywheel is OK, because once the flywheel is removed and put back on it will have problems down the line. What are your thoughts on this?

I have already replaced the front crankshaft oil seal and asked them if they could replace the rear one when they had the box off.

Is it common for the dual mass flywheel on the Omega to fail?

Is the thrust bearing separate or is it part of the Concentric slave cylinder?

Thanks

If they can change a clutch in 2 hours, good luck to them. I think dual mass flywheel failure is rare on Omegas. Slave cylinder does not include clutch thrust bearing.

Sounds like a cheap clutch change to me.

Anyone know why taken the original Dual Mass Flywheel off and putting it back on would cause problems?

I really would like the rear oil seal replaced at the same time but not if it will cause problems later.

The clutch is being replaced very soon.

Thanks

It wont, removing the DMF and re-fitting will do nothing but they should use new bolts.

DMF failure on an Omega, think I recall one once but never on the low power petrol models, even the ones I have seen with intergalactic miles have been fine.

You can do a clutch on an Omega in two hours with a ramp and transmission hoist.

Same for the slave cylinder, the originals are so good they simply don't go and the bearing is a clip on item which comes with any good clutch kit.

I would only change the rear oil seal if it is actually leaking

Mark, all noted on the rear oil seal.

I think they believe the thrust bearing is part of the slave cylinder the way one of the mechanics was talking to me and I think that is why they have quoted me for a 2 piece clutch kit and a slave cylinder and not a 3 piece clutch kit that includes the bearing.

I will talk to them on Monday. If the slave cylinder and the dual mass flywheel is in good working order it should be a really cheap job. Every one I've spoken to around here trust them to do an excellent job and charge fairly.

Thanks Terry and Mark for all the info.  :y
