Taking it somewhere for a pre MOT check up just incase? Taking into account that it'll be the first test in my ownership? Had same advisories in last two tests relating to brakes front and rear need looking at ( changed rears already) but you never know what to expect.. Am I wasting money having it looked over professionally before hand?

It's not guaranteed, but if you're underneath, and you maintain, and look after your car correctly, then you should know 9/10 what's wrong and what may cause you headaches. Only things like emissions, and potentially worn suspension components which may only show up when the big jiggy-jiggy machine does its wishbone testing, where a prybar on your driveway may not be as effective.
Corroded brake lines, extensive chassis rust, blown bulbs, loose/hanging off bits, rotten exhausts etc should all be easy to spot. :)

Take it for a proper MOT early, if its passes you get 12 months and a week, if it fails you know what to fix and get a free re-test

I hear what you say but wasn't going to take to a mates house and shove it up on axle stands.. Thinking of a garage jobby.. Rather know now it needs £300 spending on it instead than on the day..

If it fails I thought you didn't have a weeks grace anymore? And nit allowed to drive it as its logged with dvla?
