Title: oil in spark plug wells
Post by: simonc2829 on 19 July 2015, 08:44:53
Decided to change the spark plugs after my 2.2 started stalling in hot weather. Pulled the coil pack off covered in oil took out the spark plugs all covered in oil top and bottom no mayo on oil cap or in expansion tank. No white smoke when starting and run fine after changing plugs. Car had been sitting for 3 months before I bought it. Would it be the rocker gasket or something more sinister that's going to hit me hard in the wallet.

Blocked breather system causing oil pressure to push past the cam cover seal.

Good clean up and replace gasket and plugs  :y

Very doudtfull anything more sinster than cam cover seal, but breathers must be cleaned to avoid problem re appearing .

Thorough guide in maintenance section but you would be wise using genuine cam seal/sealant and also replace those plugs too. :y

There are some pattern parts that are ok... There's a lot of experience here ;)

You might want to buy the short breather hose instead of trying to clean it... Tunnie can confirm hose and part number if it isn't in a guide... I think it's a few quid but means you don't have to try cleaning it!!!

Yeah follow my guide for the 2.2, its a really nice job DIY. Loads of room and space, easy access. Give throttle body and breathers a good clean too  :y

I can vouch for that.  I did my dads 2.2 following the guide as was rough as old boots on start up, died on few ocassions.  Now runs sweet as you like on cold start up.

Also did oil and filter change for genuine GM.  :y

Thanks OOF.  :y
