Centre console, the bit for the rear passengers with vents in, a rubbery layer is peeling off, is it a polish or something from the previous owner or is it the finish?
-
It's the finish, same as the auto gear level surround etc.

I wather wike it awso! ;D

Time to look for somethig similar - might use Humbrol 67 on the centre console
-
It's on door trims, arm rest/centre consule & etc etc. A pretty dumb idea imo >:( :(
People slate Rovers for bad trim :-? I've never come across it before.
Mine has small scuffs on the trim in loads of little places, though you don't notice unless you look hard. Still shouldn't be there in the first place >:( >:( >:(
-
also found on the armrest catch, and the doors above the flip out compartments
-
Only the back of the armrest centre console is dodgy so I'll try spraying it

Nah, on our Rover, the trim just falls off ;D (actually, its only the passenger door handle)

or peel it all off?
-
If you find a good way to repair it, let me know!

Well I think I have some paint of similar colour but not rubbery.
Not suitable for front of car usage
-
Seems to be a GM trate, because it's the same with both my mates US trucks :( :( :(

Eeeeew !!!
-
dontpeel it off it will look shinny and shitty at the same time
ive got the same prob on door trims
-
my buttons have a layer peeled on some of them, its like a laquer coating come off. ive made it worse by trying to get it all off
richie

I tried cleaning my buttons --- ended up removing the little drawings on them too :-[

I have exactly the same problem with my trim, especially the rear vents and the catch on front centre arm rest. It does seem to be a stupid ides to put such a flimsy rubber film over trim that is subject to a fair amount of general wear and tear.
The only solution would appear to remove it all and then try to roughen the surface to a matt finish by grit blasting or scotchbrite etc.(what a sod of a job that would be!) [smiley=angry.gif]

Had the same problems on my buttons.
Replace them with the later ones with a "bobbly" (a great technical word) finish. they won't rub off

Interestingly VAG (Audi/VW) may have started this trend as my Son has experienced the 'rubbery paint moth' on his A4 and Passat - both 1997 models. >:(
The common denominator here would appear to have something to do with a German supplier of trim parts - curious! :-/
Needless to say my Facelift Elite has the 'disease' also.
What I have noticed is that residue from human hands sticks to the paint finish and seems to accelerate its chemical breakdown to the point where it just rubs off. :-/
I have to say that this rubbery paint surface is unnaceptable for a car with such a high spec in other areas. My Carlton CDi interior is so much better quality and that is 15 years old. :)
I would as others have mentioned be very keen to hear of a good fix for this problem. :y

I have this problem, I think previous owner had long finger nails that seem to have put minor scratches all over the place, that won't polish or clean out. :(

Anyone priced up new trim??? Especially the driver's door pull, that's the worst.
