Title: Wretched thieves...
Post by: Nickbat on 09 July 2008, 09:29:51
SWMBO's number plates (front and back) were nicked off her Corsa last night. Police informed. Now I have to get some plates made up urgently as she needs the car tonight.

Grrr!  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Listening to the news this morning there are quite a few cases of this happening in certain areas. These barstewards nick a set of plates to put on their own cars, drive into a garage and fill their tanks up then drive off without paying. As soon as they get down the road, the nicked plates are discarded. The CCTV only gets the registration No. of the the nicked plates and they get away with it. >:(

Yes, Debs, they did, and I'll get a letter in the post with full details in the next few days.  :y

What I failed to mention on here was that last Wednesday night (2.30 am) a Corsa stopped in the road and one occupant got out and started eyeballing Corsas (there are three in the road). My neighbour spotted them and one guy shouted out "Come on, Steve, there's someone at the window!" and scarpered. The police were told about this. My hunch is that, for some reason the plates were "stolen to order".

Look out for a "Steve" driving a Corsa.  ;)

Local accessory shop want £25 for a pair of new plates. Seems reasonable, I guess.

Use some torx headed ones or something, they will likely only have normal screwdrivers..

Gather that's about the right price, was cheapest we could get after a bit of phoning around.  Good luck

Great example of the kind of treats we're all in for due to our great new secure world run by computers and CCTV.

Yep, I will go down that route, but with the pouring rain and the need for SMBO's car to be street-legal tonight, I have just put them back with double-sided adhesive tape (as before). If the weather was nice I would get rid of all the old tape adhesive (what a job!), get some antilock screws and attach the new plates that way. The immediate snag stopping me doing that today (apart from the weather) is I don't have a template to drill the holes in the new plates. With a nice sunny day and piece of cardboard for a template, I'll get it all sorted.  :y

I'm sorry to hear that. Looks like we must all be vigilant in todays economic climate, where people find ways of getting what they can't pay for :(

Corsa's seem to be a prime target, i know three people who have had number plates pinched from there corsa's, one person twice. Guess it's the car of choice for the young scumbags people of today. I hope it wont cause you to much trouble in the future if they do use the plates for criminal act's  >:(

i park my car too close to the wall for anyone to get fingers down the front of my bumper for the plates, got it off to an art of parking without hitting the wall and only leaving a paper thin gap!!

Main dealers do plates fairly cheap, 8 quid iirc and BS approved unlike ebay tat. I have also seen on the wall of our VX service dept Nik, some plates, which when trying to remove unlawfully, break up into bits, exactly for this purpose. Sounds like just the trick  :y
