Out on a run yesterday and the charge light flickered on the went out for a few seconds only to be followed by the light coming back on an all the clocks going off. Managed to drive it back home, checked the charge output and it is about 17v with the battery gassing away nicely! I take it the reg pack has gone.
I would assume there is nothing else in the system that may trigger the charge output to go so high. I also assume that I can get the reg/rectifier pack separately for the alternator. Anybody able to confirm this?
Not sure of the alternator model yet as it is pouring down at the moment so I have not got the alternator off as yet, just thought I would put it out there to see what's already known..

Regulator on back of alternator. Common fault. GM wont sell regulator on its own, but widely available from other sources.

Yep, though it would be. When it stops raining I will pull out the alternator, get the model number and see what's about.
Typically, I don't normally use the car much during the week but now have a week off and "was" going to go out and about...... Still could be worse I suppose!

Check the alternator as its probably a Bosch, get the number off the regulator and cross match it.
If you have a decent machines place nearby which refurb alternators they will be able to supply the part from stock, if not then plenty on line for £10-30 (dependent on type fitted, I seem to recall the Dti using the same setup as the later 2.6/3.2 so the more pricey reg required but do check,)

Yep, ordered and fitted a new regulator/brush pack and it now works fine.......except the radio won't come on. Hopefully not fried!
I take it the 2013 has a fuse at the back of the unit, only I need the removal tools (which have been ordered) to get it out to have a look.

Yep fuse gone, new fuse and all's well, could have been a lot worse me thinks....even the battery still seems serviceable, for a while at least! :) :) :)
