Changed auxillary belt last week and afterwards car wouldn't start. Checked pulleys and belts and they were all moving as thy should
Disconnected battery for an hour when reconnected the car started up straight away no problem. today drove car this morning no problem went to move car an hour later wont turn over again. Over last few weeks car has been hesitant to start maybe once or twice but usually spaced days or weeks apart.
I'm thinking crank sensor i felt behind engine where i think the sensor plug is and found a hose that isn't connected to anything it was pointing downwards, is this a drain hose for something it doesnt look like it ever had a clip on it.
This is it pulled up from under scuttle

The pipe you are showing is the autogearbox vent pipe and isnt ment to connect to anything as it is a vent pipe.
It should run around the back of the engine in the exact position as you have discovered and allows the gearbox to vent to atmosphere..perfectly normal.
We had this conversation last week after the symptoms you described and I advised you to consider replacing the crank shaft sensor as the faults you were describing were classic.Sounds like it has now given up on you...time for a new one I think . ;)
The plug you have located is for the injectors not the crank shaft sensor as it has a much thinner black sleeved wire going into the plug/socket.It will be either clipped up behind the back area of # 6 plug probably onto a metal bracket unless in a previous life it has been busted off.
