Title: Air con queries
Post by: Terbs on 15 August 2015, 23:20:11
Put the saloon in for air con gas. It cost me £40, car collected and delivered back. He said there was no gas in it, done a pressure test, which he said, held. Filled it with gas and put a dye in. Puzzles me, is why would there not be any gas in it, if the pressure held. Does this stuff 'evaporate' as such.
Have to admit, it is now so cold. I took it for a spin round the block, with settings on low, and I had to turn it off as it froze me to the bone. Is this correct.....never had air con gassed on the estates and they run what I class as 'cool'

The tests they do to check for leaks (the vac hold test) will only show the most catastrophic leaks, not the more common small leaks. That's why they also dye it as well, so when it runs out again, the dye will help locate leak.

A/C on max (LO) should get uncomfortably cool within a couple of miles in all but the hottest weather.

On my Omega......I mean my ex-Omega :-\ I took a reading of about 2 degrees C when I checked the temperature from the central vents. AC set to LO......time about 10 minutes.

Always found the temp lower on my older MFL to the newer FL.

Air vent temp on older car used to get down to 4c but newer FL does seem to go much lower than 8c which is still cold enough,as my AC guy said the newer FL,s systems werent as efficient at pulling temp down

Suspect he's giving you a little flannel, as the system is pretty much identical.
