Have in front of me an cheapo 7" Tablet, Intel quad core 64 bit running the latest Lollipop 5.1.1, nice little fast toy if I'm honest with good HD resolution, downside is I can't get the SD Card to work properly in particular Apps writing / saving files to external stooge.
Having had a quick Google it would appear Android messed about with SD Card permissions (why??) in Kitkat 4 upwards (didn't know that) but then retro fixed it in Lollipop 5 upwards, but still can't get my head around it, not interested in Rooting or Bricking it at this stage, so any experts out there that no of a easy fix?
Ta.

Formatted the SD card to fat32?
yea I checked that, even did a quick format on the pc in fat32. Then again on the tablet, which it lets me do.
I can read and play files from the SD card, just can't write to it.

Is it micro sd, not full size with a lock button?

just checked the slot is marked as a TF slot on the device, assuming its the same thing, card is a Kingston Memory 64gb MicroSD (a real one).

Using a file explorer app, can you see the SD card? Create/delete folders etc?
Do the apps you are using have permissions to write to the SD card?

On the FM that came with it yes and no, lets me create a folder but cannot copy drop a file in there.
Downloading Astra FM now, which I'm more familiar with.
What do you mean by does the app have permissions, where would I check that.

Ok, thanks I'll have a read, I thought permissions were set when you installed the app in question, bloody battery has just gone now so its on charge.
Not really an Android user as such, been using a Nokia X2 for the last year, which is a Microsoft windows boot theme with Android 4 something, runs faultlessly for everything I need, just got too use to that.

Trans Flash (TF) now goes by the name of micro SD.

ok downloaded Astro FM and checked permissions, permissions are -
This app can access the following on your tablet, modify or delete the contents of your SD Card, read the contents of your SD Card.
However when I go to Storage I get, emulated and SDcard 0 (internal) and USBDisk (think the USB disk is for OTGO lead, ie you can plug a otgo into the micro USB charger port and add external USB devices)
Can't write to USBcard anyway as guessing its not there.
What I'm not seeing is SDCard 1, which on my Nokia X is the SDcard slot?

Could be a hardware fault, my girlfriends HTC did that and even after a factory reset it still couldn`t see the sd card but then on the odd time it could ::)
I never did get to the bottom of it :-\

Did think about doing a factory reset, but seeing as I can't back up the old fashion way to SD Card, decided otherwise. Don't have enough faith in this new way on doing a phone back up over air with Google. :-\

The Google back up worked fine for me even though it was accidental, I bought a Nexus 5 and my sim wouldn`t fit so I went to the Vodafone shop for a micro sim (didn`t realise you could cut them down then) and twenty minutes later all my contacts and photos were there, I was impressed with that because it just did it 8)

Yea, thanks, but phone details and app restore is the least of my problems, unless I have a least a boot / software backup at hand very reluctant to do a factory reset, seen it too many times, phones can get bricked that way.

What about installing TWRP and make a back up on your phone?
