because of the stat was running a bit high I decide to change it also to see if that was my heating problem....the old stat opened fully in around 2 miles.....the new one takes at least that to begin to open and about 5 miles to be completely open....can that be right....also didnt make a blind bit of difference to my heater,,still very little heat,which i will look at day...so is this new stat faulty because it takes so long to open ???? any ideas please...thanks.

Sounds about right, my 2.2 can take an age to fully heat up, much longer than the V6. Probably around twice the distance before its up the gauge.
As per the other thread, have you tried running it up to temp with coolant cap off? Squeezing top rad pipe?

Thanks tunnie that takes care of that,,,,,as for the air lock and no heating.....from cold and with the correct amount of water in the expansion tank I ran the engine until up to temp,,,switched off engine,,waited a minute and slowly undid cap but straight away it wanted to boil over,,so bit by bit I took cap off which took all of ten minutes before it was safe to do so as the water still wanted to come out...So with cap off started it and let it run and burped the hoses to help it...but after about 5 minutes the water level rose up and spilled out so i put the cap back on,,then sat in the car and held rev at 2000 and the heat became a lot better,,however as soon as i let the revs drop to tick over the heater went cool again,,,the other thing is that when I switched the engine off I could hear a lot of gurgling going on in the top hose,so i felt the hose which was quite hard and hot I could feel what felt like air going through it and i could still see bubbles in the water tank from the hose that comes from the throttle body,,,now although the head gasket test was negative i still have a sneaky feeling that it is leaking gasses into the cooling system thus the bubbling.....but would that also cause the heater to play around,,,and what other test for the gasket is there apart from the blue fluid test...any thoughts please...apart from a match and petrol.....spent too much money on it now to turn back ..thanks :-\

That's not right, you should be able to run it up to temp with the cap off and water not wanting to escape.
Sounds like a blockage somewhere/airlock, i'd let it go cold, then make sure coolant is on the correct level for stone cold.
Then start it up, run it up to temp squeezing the hose. You should be able to get it to 85 temp wise, with water staying in the bottle :y

So...stone cold...cap off...water on level mark...heater set to high with blower on....start up let it tick over until up to temperature with a little squeeze now and then and see if it clears the air lock........if by any chance it does over flow what would that point to as regards a fault..once again thanks matey,,,will do that tomorrow and report back :y

Heater temp. On HI, blower on as low a speed as you can otherwise the heater will pull heat from the engine, and it won't warm up properly ;)

thank you..thank you,,,Tunnie / Harris....today I followed your instructions to the rule and it took about 45 minutes to get rid of all the air in the system.....I finally have heat and very toasty it is too....With the new stat in as well it now runs at approx 85 deg....up to 90 ish and fan cuts in so no more over heating...So once more thanks to the help on here another problem is solved and my faith in my omega has returned.. :) :) :) :y :y

Yep just awaiting delivery of the e.g.r. valve now,to see if we can sort that out :y
