I got a lucky bag and an orange, if I was fortunate.

There is still a good amount of diecast stuff around from the 70's that can be bought quite cheaply , maybe something to invest in now :-\
Is that james bond car still in its box because the boxes are worth as much as the car ::)
-
I have one of them that is in its box with both men still intact. My ex bro-in-law was a collector and kept telling me to get my collection valued for insurance purposes, turned out to be better than his ;D

So what did you play with as a child, or is it too rude to ask :o
When you look back to your childhood and think of all those Dinky toys, etc, original Meccano its a shame we never knew what value there would be in those toys, had we looked after them and kept the boxes.
Lets face it, first job on a dinky was getting the tyres off ;D ;D

Ah, Meccano - wasn't it brilliant?!!
And yet I became an Electronics Engineer and not a Mechanical one......
Ron.
P.S. Did anyone have a career influenced by childhood toys? EMD, what have you started! ;D

Can kids get toys like that these days?
I don't see such things about. :-\
I reckon I sent more than one old granny to meet her maker with my cap gun. ;D
-
Johnny seven. Don't remember that. When was that? the forties? I remember spud guns!
Anyone remember the pump action tube guns that fired polystyrene balls (I think that was what they were)?
I had a meccano set and bought many packs to boost it. e.g big girders. I used to build cranes and transporter bridges. I had a huge selection of gears, cogs and an electric motor and a clockwork motor. A friend actually had a number ten set in a wooden box. What a wonder that was.
Also had the obligatory train set Triang from the sixties. We had packs and packs of the yard long track to make big layouts. American "Rockies" rolling stock with vista cars etc My mate had a minic motorways and same scale railway. He also had the most marvellous clockwork O guage? train set. We used to play with it on the back garden on good days. I remember buying him a turntable for it for his birthday.

I remember sticklebricks and fuzzy felts ::) After that came lego then a mk2 escort van ;D

The Man from U.N.C.L.E car. A blue Oldsmobile if memory serves.
It was called a 'Thrush Buster'...... ;D
Worth a pretty penny if boxed and complete with the Waverley rings. :y
-
And there were some addictive Danger toys too.

BAYCO construction kits, moulded plastic tiles and metal rods that slotted into holes in the base. Late 50's and then Meccano in the early 60's, hours of fun and educational toys.
-
The great benefil with things like Meccano, etc., was that dad could "help", and especially with the Triang train set, junior could sometimes get to play with it, too!
Seriously, surely our kids are missing out on a lot with their solitary keyboard activities? Social skills/interaction, for sure...... :(

Dinky,Corgi,Spot-On and matchbox cars/trucks etc.Made "roads" in the garden weather permitting.Never really a train set lad myself but had loads of Scalextric cars, track and even motorbikes with sidecars. At early age got into making airfix kits, aeroplanes, boats, tanks, you name it I'd make it!In fact I still do although these days it's GP motorbikes, collection at present stands at 41 in varying scales.
-
Sold all my Scalextric on e bay earlier this year. 38 cars in varing states, huge box of track. Sold on in lots and made the best part of £600. Could not use it nowdays as new partner had 5 dogs, three of them large and two small mad ones

I had a cousin from Wales who always had the latest stuff...I thought I was doing well with a clockwork train but then he came up with a proper steam loco that actually produced steam.. :'( :'(...mind you that was over 65 years ago.. ;D ;D ;D

I have built loads of plastic models over the years from the fifties on. I would love to make some now (swmbo has other ideas) but I can't justify the price. I love the 1/32 scale stuff. There are also some fantastic die-cast static aircraft models, they look stunning, but I can't justify the expense. :(
Recently in Dorset, I saw a fantastic rendition of a VC10 in wood...it looked great, but...£80 :o

Spot On now that brings back memories . . . pride of my small collection was a pale blue Vauxhall Cresta complete with a sailing boat on a small trailer . . . loved that car ;D ;D ;D seem to remember it was very expensive at something like 19/11d around 1963/4 . . . crikey I'm old :'( :'(

Went from Maccano to Lego and Airfix kits to taking everything to pieces to work out how it worked, work out the design limitations and how I would make it better and then put it back together again. :y As a petrolhead read Hot Car every month and used to drool over Ford Anglia engine transplants, sit up and beg Ford Popular hot rods etc., etc. In my teens it was radios and electronics, so no surprise at a 4 year MOD electronics apprenticeship and also no surprise that all my career has been in R&D. Great times are when you are on the leading edge and you can see you are making a difference in making things better than anybody else, has to date, in the world. :y :y :y
