in thinking cam belt change on a V6 is something of a time consuming and therefore costly operation to have carried out?

On a 2.6/3.2 (or 2.5/3.0 with SAI removed) it takes me under an hour. I've seen Mr DTM do it on a 3.0l with SAI still in place in under 45mins, but it was beer-o'clock, and he was worried about missing out on the first round ;D

Follow the DVD, most can do it in 2-3hrs first time. Its not difficult, and its worth taking your time.  I would NOT entrust this to a garage, including a dealer. If you're really not able to do it, contact one of the guys here who do mobile work ;)

Given your location, might be worth trying Darth Loo-knee. Very reasonable and a perfectionist.

It is indeed a 3 litre,and sadly I can no longe physically do such things-I even had to spread fitting plug leads and plugs over a 2 day period!Thanks for suggestion re-DLK.Will save up a few quid first and then make contact with him see what he says.
