People tell me that the poppet valves in modern internal combustion engines rotate during engine operation, and this largely removes the need for regular valve regrinding. I believe this, it fits my experience.
How is it achieved?

There not on modern engines actually, a technology of some 30 years ago.
Its all hardened seats, good fuel and well controlled fuel mix and ignition timing that saves the valves.
