Title: Windscreen - just checking if I'm being lied to...
Post by: Diamond Black Geezer on 23 September 2015, 15:36:19
New screen's in.. only thing is, after asking on repeated phone calls and being told the screen and trim are there on the order, and even there on the shelf... had word from my girlfriend who stayed in today to wait for Autofarce to show up... they've cleared off saying they don't supply the rubber trims.

Now this I can believe, fair enough, though they do bent and get mishapen a fair bit when you take them in and out, so by reusing my old trim (which in itself, may have been removed more than once before I owned the car) it's most likely not a very nice fit/seal.

I can get one off a scrapper just up the road, however should I am I just being lied to again? Given the old one was bent and distorted, surely part of 'the job' as paid for my Mr Insurance should include this trim. That and the fact I have been told that it would on several occasions.

Anyone else had theirs included with their screen replacement?  :)

Correct, they dont supply the rubber trim on any I've had fitted including the latest one. They do, however, fit a new rear tray / channel whatever it is around the screen aperture (as they can easily remove the old one) and this is what that rubber trim clips into.

Fair enough, there's been some confusion with regard to what we meant by 'trim'. that's fine. I've been told that the old rubber has been cleaned thoroughly and looks like new. My worry was that it wouldn't seat properly, case it was lifting at the corners before.. clearly the listing was caused because the clips you mention were broken, rather than the fault of the rubber trim.

New info.. they've GLUED my interior mirror in place, after finding it wouldn't seat properly!!!!

Fuming, I told my missus to get back out there and get it off right away, by the time I get home if might be bonded on there for good, otherwise!

I've been having this argument with them for several months - my trim came off on the m27 after screen change but they don't show any sign of doing anything about it.

The trim that snaps does get replaced, it's the rubber seal that doesn't. This seal just clicks into place so generally doesn't get damaged.

It does when they use crap pattern plastic channel which does not grip the rubber trim properly after which the rubber departs at speed....

When I had my screen replaced last year my trims and rubber seal were included and it was Autoglass.

Much appreciated, all!

Companies like Autofarce don't realise that there's communication between like minded owners on forums such as this!  :)

I had asked them about the rubber seal before hand and they told me it was supplied, it seems to be a bit hit and miss though as some don`t have them supplied.

I can get hold of one just up the road for basically free/a pint, but what is more my concern is removing the one on my car, for fear of damaging the clips, and therefore the new one won't go back in. To be honest it's not sitting flush and 'hard' against the bodywork, there's a few gaps of a few mm as it is. Probably because it was bent out of all shape on removal.

I have absolutely no intention of paying my excess.

A lot of it depends on WHAT insurance company its going through. Some do and will pay for trim set. Most don't pay for trim set and is left to the windscreen company to pay for trims.
