I went to the Flight Sim Show at RAF Cosford Museum yesterday. I did notice an Omega parked in the corner in the free park and ride car park, but never went to have a close look.
Anyway, on to the post. Whilst there, I tried a piece of gear called Oculus Rift. Its one of those pieces of equipment that put you in virtual reality. Instead of sitting in front of the monitor of your flight sim, this gear puts you actually in the cockpit. You twist your head and can see the wings, or back behind you. I believe its used for all sorts of other games, car racing, car rallying etc. I would imagine for Combat Flight, it would be fantastic.
After flying the P51 Mustang for 10 minutes and throwing it around the sky, I must admit I felt a bit 'airsick'. They told me this was normal at first, but you soon adapt to it, like real flying. I expect Kevin knows what I mean when he chucks his glider about. When I did a roll, I thought my belly was in my mouth !!!! ;D
Anyone on here had any experience with this kind of software/equipment ? :)

For how long? Bear in mind for two NorthernGKs to do a half hours go karting its £70, as a comparison.

Once went to Cosford sometime in the mid 80s,brilliant museum back then,that Oculus Rift thing sounds like a real blast :y

Yes, evaluated several first generation VR helmets, when they were all the short-term rage 25 years ago. I would think the current generation are much better for three reasons:
1. Much better, faster more accurate motion sensors.
2. Much higher-res brighter faster displays.
3. 3D graphic cards.
Any immersive experience can / will cause nausea where your eyes tell you one thing and your ears anther, but you can train yourself to get your 'sea legs'. Fortunately, despite my numerous ferry trips some in storm force weather I've never been seasick. My daughter is the same and us both eating a hearty meal in front of people trying to hang on to their stomachs, used to mean we got some real dagger looks. ;D ;D ;D On overnight crossings it was great as I never had to queue for my onboard full English breakfast with all the trimmings as we were approaching a French harbour. :) :) :)

The Oculus set we tried was owned by a bloke in the South West Flight Sim group. He had made a stand with a full size joystick as per a real cockpit. Had an ordinary monitor like mine, with Flight Sim on it. Once seated, he put the Oculus on my head, and the transformation was mind-boggling. I was in the cockpit...not looking at a monitor.!! Turning your head was awesome, just like looking round your own room. Glancing sidewards at the wings one side, then the other, then down at the ground. Looping was absolutely awesome...looking up and seeing the ground above you, feeling you stomach pressing against your tonsils ;D
As Rods2 said...I was quite nauseated, and wobbly legs for a while after. I was with four friends, who, like me, have been doing Flight Sim for about 20 years. They too, were almost speechless after the experience, and we all agreed....we have got to have one !!!!!!!!!
