Title: My Dell laptop survives again!
Post by: Taxi_Driver on 26 November 2006, 20:05:33
About 6 months ago at some silly time in the morning I managed to knock a glass of orange juice over the keyboard.....it made some very ill noises....and turned off  :( 6 months ago it was nice and warm out....so i left it battery disconnected sitting in sun while orange juice dribbled out of it.
Day later put battery back in and it fired back into life  :y No probs except sometimes keys stick a bit.

Last night i went and did it again  :-[.....except a glass of red wine this time  :(
It made some very un healthy noises and turned off again, i thought poops ive gone and done it this time  :(
Left it sitting on a radiator for several hours with the batt unplugged.....tried it again...no luck....didnt even show charging light when i plugged in charger.....so thought buggar ive killed it this time....left it last night.....this morning i thought id try it again.....plugged batt in and guess what it sprung back into life again  8-)

Has my Dell laptop got nine lives  ;D or are Dells pretty much TD proof  :D

Hard to say. try submersing it in a bath of hot, soapy water for an hour or so, and then drop it from the top floor of a block of flats. If its rubbish, that should find it out.

As many know, I rate Dell laptops. Alas, I have to have an HP laptop now for work, and once again, last week I had to get out dustpan and brush to sweep it up....

I have a Dell desktop and a Dell laptop, always found them an excellent company to deal with.

It could probably do with immersing in a tank of tricloroethene.....to give it an inner cleanse  :y.....but its been a few years since ive worked with that chemical and its probably banned now  :-/

I did that to a Dell (trying to use a laptop in the bath). Dried it out, and it worked for a while. Eventually blew up though.  :-[

I was using my bosses Dell laptop the other day and a single droplet of water fell on it from the condensation of my glass of water. Killed it for the whole day. Fortunately she was in a meeting and it was working by the time she got out! :D

Sounds like your laptop has taken a fair bit of punishment it maybe worth seeing if some of the pc shops do a laptop keypad cover.

A mate of mine has this on his and it works a treat. :y

Its the only way to keep my post counts up ;)

Seriously, when I used to be oncall, you took phone and laptop into bathroom, as you could almost guarantee being called.  I was on a conf call when laptop fell in, god only knows what other people on the call thought.  A customer was on that call as well  :-[
