Hi Everyone,
Encouraged by advice on OOF re changing instrument lamps, having put up with light out over the petrol gauge, I decided to "have a go"
Bought two bulbs from Vx. on Friday. Sunday morning, with great trepidation levered out the air vents( I hate playing with plastic)
All went well thanks to OOF. Unclipped the Clock/Radio display, found that the instument connectors were fixed and already disconnected.
Out came the whole caboodle.
Great!
Why had I been sweating ?
Guess what ?
Vx frosty face had sold me the wrong bulbs, the smaller warning bulbs.
When will I ever learn ?
Should have known and bought two of each.
Sunday. Everywhere shut. Put it all back together to go to Vx.
At least I now know how to do it OK.

Sounds like a typical vx dealer. My last experience with buying parts from vx was buying two breather pipes coming from the cam cover. Ordered the parts, got them a couple of days later and one of the pipes was wrong.
They proceeded to blame me for pointing out the wrong pipe so asked them to bring up the pic on the computer. They then tried to tell me that the pipe I was pointing out does not exist on the omega - only the vectra. To which I replied - they have the same engine - X20XEV.
Made me pay for the pipe (for the vectra ::)) and still made me pay for the part I didn't need, I was ready to throttle them. >:(

That's exactly what almost happened to me when using my Ashford Vx dealer; they tried to only sell me the small bulbs, until I insisted I required the larger ones as well! :o
Thank God it was before I took everything apart, but that is probably due to me being in that position before with the car completely stripped down! :'( :'(
Best of luck with the job once you have the bulbs, and by the way I would replace the whole lot whilst you are at it! :y :y

Brilliant! Thought you would some how!! ;D ;D ;)

lol ;D Its funny when you talk about VX dealers otherwise I'd be crying.
Bought some rear brake calipers, two of them are different colours, guy wouldn't take them back because there was nothing wrong with them other than the colour, so i have nice silver one on one side and a gold one on the other.
I guess it will go with the vx dealers black and blue eye if they give me anymore wrong parts.

Me driving my car makes it identifyable enough 8-)

I went in one day asking about replacement headlight glass, got a quote and went away to think about it. Went back 2 weeks later to purchase and spoke to the same bloke who said they didnt do them separately and have never done so since the 80's and that I must have been halucinating :o
He may have been right the second time but needless to say I have never been back >:(

sounds like the average vx dealer :(
-
Sounds like the dealers ought to be on TheBoys Gay List. Then marked on a leader board as good down to naff.

I dunno, it just feels like VX part dealers don't give an F about their customers, I mean we're driving their flag ship model, we're walking advertisement to their brand and all they give us is crap about parts we ask for....... sorry people when it comes to VX dealers I'm really bitter about them

As some of you will know from the lakes meet, myself and Mick dundee needed some parts. The nearest dealer was in Kendal about 40 minutes away, it was saturday and they closed at 12:30 and it was 12:05 :o I phoned the dealer and checked he had the parts in stock, he had so I told him we were on our way. Captain Zoc was chauffering so we set off. we were about ten minutes away and it was 12:25 :o so I phoned the dealer again and told a little fib I said we were only a couple of minutes away ::) to which he replied "thats alright I wasn't going to leave until you got here". when we got there he invited us behind the counter into his office so as we could identify the relevant parts on the computer. He was very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I asked if they sold carb cleaner which they didn't, however he disappeared into the workshop and returned with a brand new tin and said thats "on the house."It came time to settle the bill so I asked him if they took trade club, which they didn't but he said he'd put it through as a staff sale which worked out even cheaper than trade club :) So we were very pleased with the service that we got, so it just goes to show not all VX dealers are a PITA :y :)

IME, independents are the best. Bridge at Banbury, esp parts, I find incredibly helpful.

Fairs. fair, not all of them are right enough! I had a brilliant one, Patchway Motors at Patchway Bristol who looked after my ex's and my company cars as well as our private ones, and were always extremely helpful and just sometimes very generous.
To start with they gave us a special "Trade" discount for everything we bought (mind you one way and another we spent many thousands with them over 18 years, including buying cars!), But I remember one ocassion with my Elite I needed two new cats; £800 in total (in 1999)! :'( :'( . However because they wanted to keep my custom they sourced special "factory reconditioned" ones direct from Germany, that actually were new, for just £200 each; £400 the pair, and that was with fitting.
So no there are some great dealers out there, you just need to find them! ;)
It may have been mentioned before, but how about us members rating our local Vx dealers, and others, on a pre-agreed scale, to build up a map of what's available out there? :-/ :-/ :-/

i fear that libel laws would prevent that lz.the volvo forum had to shut down a while ago for similar reasons.shame really ,it could be rather a long thred.

I know exactly where that one is, :y
I had a good experience with my local VX dealer i turned up at 10pm one night with my Astra (ECU had died) on the back of a tow truck, manager was there doing the books and helped us push the car into the pound, I did end up speanding £800.

We should all remember that there's a very good, knowlegable parts dept in Bury St Edmunds that wil post out the part you order. The biggest difference is that, unlike a lot of the other dealer's parts staff, he has an interest in the parts he sells, which is why if Vauxhall don't still sell a part he will contact Opel (admittedly this is more applicable to older Vx/Opels)
I don't really have any problems with 'my' parts dept either. The only slight problem is that there are only 2 of them, years ago there used to be 3, and you're often waiting & waiting & waiting ...... >:(, and that's both on the phone & in the actual dealers.
