Don't give up on them doing a u turn on the retrospective tax increase , theres still a lot of decent in the ranks, also a groundswell of public opinion against the increase. Especially as the government last week had to admit they had got there figures wrong regarding the amount of people being better or worse off with the change in tax rules

GB will be out very soon, so things might change --- but the damn polititians interfere with my life so much, they aren't telling me what to drive as well !!!!!!

Since we got involved with all this European nonsense England has gone downhill. An unelected leader of a party that only 35% of the population voted for, denied a vote on the European Treaty, France, Holland, Ireland have all said no, but they are still trying to push it through. We have no chance of getting any relief while we have what amounts to a Communist government, only the rich party members and their sponsors will be able to run cars shortly

I have no plans to sell mine in the near future. If I have got to pay double for a car of similar age because it is economical I might aswell pay the high road tax. My work is only a 6 mile round trip each day so petrol is not a major worry. Got used to space and comfort now anyway!

No it was started by the Argentine Juanta invading the soveriegn terroritary of GB and effectively imprisoning British citizens.  Yet another example of a dictatorship forcing a war situation to arise.  Maggie bravely instigated the military action, after exhausting diplomatic avenues, to win back the Falklands and freedom for its people, proving what a great leader she was! :y :y :y

i wont be looking at an lpg kit, look at the costs (around £1,500) and then look what happenned to diesel prices, alt fuel that became popular and costs more that petrol now!
i just do not trust these governments to start taxing anything they please .

Diesel is now more expensive because they are making it out of other grades, it costs money to combine lighter hydrocarbons or crack heavier ones. Due to the big uptake in Diesel this is why it is in short supply, plenty of petrol around though - so it is cheaper (before tax)

Its still a small increase when you compare to the general cost of motoring.

People are posting about spending £11,000 on a slighly more economical german oil burner.

£11k compared to a £200 quid increase in tax?

Infact any car change will prob cost you more money than the increase in tax, which may not happen.

The increase is in effect, 3 tanks of petrol!

Come on people, would you change your car just to save just 3 tank fulls of petrol?

This is exactly what the current tax hikes, etc. will stop. If the costs of running a big car were related to usage (tax on fuel, road pricing, etc.) then I might consider something small as a runabout. However, having been stiffed for another 200 quid on the Omega I'm hardly going to fork out another 200 quid to tax a runabout (need to keep the Omega for towing any way).

Nope. Once my 440 quid is paid I'll be getting my money's worth out of the Omega and stuff the CO2 emissions.

Kevin, What they really want you to do, eco warriors that they are (not), is drive your car to the tip and replace it with a new eco-car thereby generating them a load of VAT income oops what am I saying.  Never mind the eco cost of building the additional new vehicles.

Its an ECO stealth tax (love that expression) - Brown is a sneaky barsteward, always has been since day one when he introduced the closet tax on pensions.

there's a few eco cars about on £35 a year tax, i rate the corsa to be the worst though, only available in 1.0 form, which means sh*t slow, VW  and Peugeot both do 1.4s!

i'll be more than happy saving near on £1000 a year every year in overall costs with the corsa i'll have

a full tank on a corsa of about £45 will get me around 400 miles

Kevin drove an MX-5 to work today :-[ so he will quietly ignore that point and mention that, as he doesn't play golf, he has no need for a golf kart. ;D Certainly not one that costs £8K+.

I did see a Smart doing about 85 down the M4 the other day. Looked really stable - like if the driver so much as f@rted it'd have been up the embankment and into the bushes. ;D

Blimey! Just shows how things have changed in the last 18 months. I was getting 400 miles out of 45 quid's worth in my previous car before I got the Omega.

It was a 1.8 8v Renault Laguna.

I will not be dictated to and forced to drive a piddling little car that I hate!!!  I have always had fairly big cars, and always will as long as they continue to be around.

It really hisses me off, all this save the planet bit - it's just another excuse to tax the poor worker more.  How does that save the planet?  It doesn't!

In fact, my next car is going to be a 3.2, see my thread, and I will enjoy every moment of driving it, I don't care what it costs.

When the States and China start to comply with all the rules that come out of these planet-saving theories, then I might reconsider, though I doubt it, but until then, they can sod off.  I'm not convinced, and I'm not playing.

Tony was / is still a very clever politician who can duck and dive, getting out just at the right moment before all started to hit the fan........ready for GB, who is politically 'dim' compared to TB, just standing, getting all the sxxt all over his sour face! lol ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The disaster we are now in had it's foundation in Tony's time, which made that administration / the Treasury unable to cope, due to insufficient funds and poor economic policy, to cushion the WORLD credit crunch.  But Tony got his fame, an PM's salary, and a future career at our expense. Great Britain and GB has now been hit by the fall out. :'( :'( :'( :'(

We now require cool, calm, but a radically different Government with well balanced policies to tackle the political, economic and social onslaught which will get worse in the short and medium term at least. :'( :'( :'(
