Just bought a JVC DVD Front Surround Home Cinema System TH-U1 from Argos for £99.
Their previous price was £249 so it is a big saving. The rest of the web seem to be selling for around £180.
Played a couple of DVD's through it and thought it was FAB. It certainly bought KING KONG to life, and a DVD I have of Barbra Streisand in Concert was now superb, unlike the flat recording on the normal TV speakers, when I last played it.
With 360 watts RMS there is more than enough power, without distortion.
Experts may probably disagree, but I am certainly impressed by the quality :y

That's a great deal on what I consider a good value system anyway; I have the Th-S55 JVC 5.1 surround sound system that I purchased 2 years ago and been very pleased with it. :y :y
JVC is a great brand and it will I am sure continue to delight!
It is great getting those DVD's out again and enjoying them as they are mean't to be seen and heard! Enjoy!!

Looks a good setup for the money. I would take the wattages with a pinch of salt, as with most audio systems.

I tried to get the same setup in my local Argos, but they had sold out.
Good value at that price, because Argos are very competitive anyway, even before reductions :y

I have spent too much and was in sales. Managed to get ex demo front LR pair for only £450 :o
Centre and rears same make.
Amp got £25 knocked off from £500

Over rated crap which does not impress.....designed for looks not sound/picture quality!
Only 360 watts RMS.....I have that just in the sub...............bloody good job I have a detached house! ;D

Right, a few little pointers.
Here is the real info for the power:
Front/Surround: 40 W per channel, RMS at 3 [ch937] at 1 kHz, with 10 % total harmonic distortion.
Center: 100 W, RMS at 4 [ch937] at 1 kHz, with 10 % total harmonic distortion.
Subwoofer: 100 W, RMS at 4 [ch937] at 30 Hz, with 10 % total harmonic distortion.
Biggest concern is the THD (total harmonic distortion), its MEGA high when driven hard so dont go running it flat out to much or you could risk damaging the high range drivers (just noticed, the speakers dont have any!).
Also, the total power output in the JVC site states 320W max....not RMS so the RMS figure is likely to be considerably lower (maybe even less than half).
In addition, the unit is not big enough to have a 500VA transformer (unless it is a switched mode which might help explain the bloody awful THD figures!) in it so as much as each channel might be able to drive reasonable wattage alone, the PSU will not be able to supply enough oommph all 6 to work at high outputs simultaneously. The spec states 60W power consumption so that also does not tie in with the magic 320W!
Most importantly though, play with the system, adjust the speaker levels well, move the speakers about a bit and get it to your taste and you will wonder how you ever lived without surround sound!

Mark, your surround sound system will need replacing when you move house, they dont move well at all ::)
Due to the amount of people dumping them, tips wont take em.
So to do you a favour, I will take it off your hands for you :y

I have one of thesebut in silver, Darnt actually turn it up in my house as I dont think the old windows would survive, Still trying work out some of the settings on. ( a true gadget. hehe)
