Post by: EMD on 26 October 2015, 12:13:08

Had a set fitted for the past 6 weeks/1500 miles and so far no issues.

I have a very full boot most of the time and seems to hold the car well.Didnt repl;ace the shocks at the same time, despite having a set of B,4,s in the stock cupboard so may replace them in next couple of weeks as think set on where done when springs were last replaced according to past service record in 2009 so imagine they are getting tired.

Reading Tunnie,s issues with them though may hold off

Just that on ecp they are selling the springs at discount from £460 reduced to £35 each . Got a annoying creak/knock when turning or going over uneven road surfaces . Needs investigating but thought these springs were good value .

At that price they are cheaper than the Sachs I got..think mine were around the £80 for the pair.

Almost worth buying several sets at that price and selling on with small profit to recoup your original spend for your set  :y

Sachs fitted to mine about 4 years ago now. Still going strong. Only complaint is they're a bit floaty. But otherwise great

Hmm maybe just me but i think the cdx is a bit floaty , more than the elite  :-\ Im sure my springs are originals from factory so would prefer a more stiffer spring .

Think I will end up fitting new shocks too ,as have set in storage.

My main concern reading past threads is the actual mounting set.B,4s as supplied seem to be poor quality than the GM that are fitted to an old set of SL shocks I also have but see the 2 fixing sets arent compatable unless you fir GM Estate .

Maybe MV springs for me then  :-\

Or just buy an MV6 , could work out cheaper . New i should have kept the mv  ::)

Fair price but wonder what the quality of the top rubber mounting set would be like.

Seems that supplied with B4,s is poor and requires further expense buy Estate fixing set from GM so probably by the time all said and done just buy from GM as hopefully that will include the fixing set

Just my 'twopenneth'... fitted MV6 springs to my V6, and though very happy with the handling etc.. they did raise the ride height by an inch or two.  :y

ie: the originals were definitely correct, not Elite SL ones, or anything, but most likely the originals, therefore clearly sagged and worn. The MV6 replacement ones came off a much younger lower mileage car. You may find that your Sachs ones will tighten up the ride nicely, in spite of them being 'the same' as the ones you're replacing. Sachs have a good reputation, and unless anyone happens to the scrapping a FL MV6 at the mo, they're pretty hard to get hold of.

Personally, given how easy they are to replace, I'd be getting these Sachs, and keeping an eye out for MV6s; which after all, a good set may not turn up for 6 months.

I have a set of KYB rear shocks on mine that I fitted just over 12 months and about 15000 miles ago and they're fine.  The rubber top mounts did seem a little smaller than what I removed, but I've had no issues.  :y  Not worth dicking about and spending extra on GM mounts in my opinion.  :)

Good to know so mite order a set of those then .

Dbg : i thought mv springs lowered the ride height  ??? Didnt realise the mv springs were in short supply so mite go ahead with the sachs then .

From memory Sachs OEM rear shocks currently fitted so will have a good look at the difference between the mounting set from them and the B4,s if and when I replace them.

Reading previous posts it seems Tunnie has had a lot of grief with getting the mountings fitted correctly so as with all my jobs I like to be for warned and have everything that may be required to hand before starting as hate jobs un finished

Worry not, MV6 / LSC springs (LCS=Lowers Sports Chassis) does lower the ride height. When you compare brand new spring with brand new spring. But I was moving from saggy, worn 170,000 mile springs that had been used for towing, and plenty of full loads with family holidays for many years, onto the LSC ones which had done half that mileage and work.  :y

And worry not about fitting kit. Get the right stuff before you start and there's no worries  :)

Re the mountings... There are at least three threads detailing the issue/difference between standard and B4 shocks, and therefore the mountings...

The useless students' problem wasn't with the fittings so much as the fitting of all the required parts ;)

Basically all the Bilstein B4 rear shocks, both saloon and estate require fitting with the genuine estate fittings. No smoke or mirrors, just simple and clear instruction... ;)

The shocks I bought were 50 quid the pair from AGP, came with fitting kit, now if I could get the kit fitted right on the rear  ::)

It's all right, I just put it together wrong  :-[ - But in my defence the guide is wrong  :)

Although I don't know what ebay have done to their parts search recently as it's crap.  >:(
