Title: Crackling Speedo
Post by: Stallion on 03 November 2015, 12:21:46
Made a new title topic just for future referencing. Some might have read my previous post about having a eratic/jumpy speedo. Initial thought was abs ecu, but neither abs/tc lights were on. Also swapped speedo panels still made no difference.

Anyway today jumped in started the car and hear some funny crackling noise from the cluster unit area lasted few seconds, and needle stopped jumping around. Drove 10 miles perfectly fine, come to park it again hear the crackling noise (managed to record it on vid) then the speedo went bonkers again? Checked ground connections/voltage all seemed fine.
Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be both the speedo's i have are faulty, it just now seems like its something electrical more then mechanical.

And if there is a way to upload vid let me know, il put it up  :y

Sometimes the connector arcs a bit if not seated fully.

Palm of hand on rev counter, sharply and firmly press in one quick action to see if connector reseats.  If not, remove instrument cluster and reinsert.

Thanks TB, tried that method and complete removal of cluster and reseating it a few times. Although havent heard the crackling after (assuming theres good connection) but still speedo hasnt settled down
