On watchdog...now!
-
Well i didn't think they would do that , whatever next ;D
-
Wouldn't trust em with a Peddle-Kart!!! ::) ::) ::)
-
Amazing that people still use these charlatans .
I know we can't all be master mechanics but surely by now people must have heard the horror stories about them
-
I've always said that I'd not trust a fast fit fitter ie all nation tyre & exhaust chains, to air in my tyres ...... seems I was right. ;D ;D
-
How that outfit keeps going god alone knows !! A few years ago a friend took a metro in for a couple of tyres got conned into brakes, discs etc & got some ridiculous bill.
-
Some years ago I had a SD1 and took it to one of their outlets for a new front tyre,on going to pay for it I was "advised" that the exhaust manifold was blowing-they were correct, but I was already aware of the fact-and that the bottom balljoint was totally shot and really needed immediate replacement for safeties sake.I might have been worried enough to go for it if not for the fact that the bottom arm[which incorporated the balljoint had been replaced the day before!!!
-
Perhaps now is a good time to mention that my steering wheel tremor is back.......thinking about it I don't think they cured the problem. :-\

Simple: they have always spent a lot of money on national advertising; lots of highly visible sites(some were loss making just to prevent competitors!); they always appeared professional even if the staff were incompetent; they were convenient in that you drove in, they had your size tyre/exhaust and you drove away.
The bad points were always extremely aggressive selling-up and a good possibility of crap work.

Track rod... they wear where they screw into the end of the rack or ball joint... Rest of Vectra suspension is pretty bombproof :y

What about the common issue of broken springs.

One in a combined mileage of nearly 300,000 miles :y
-
What about the common issue of broken springs.
Are they that common? I recovered dozens of Fiestas, Lagunas, Mondeos and C3s with broken springs, but never a Vectra.
-
The common issue of broken springs tends to appear on pot holed roads, or on cars that owners like to bounce on and off pavements. Don't think the type of car matters. I'm 62 and I have never had a broken spring on any car.

Unlike the Mundeyo they are a sensible design, so on the off chance one does fail, it won't drop down the strut and shred the tyre and brake hose ;D The one I had fail, was only discovered during a pad change... had made no notable difference to the way the car drove... ;)
-

Buy a Smart Roadster then. It's a case of when, not if they break.

Ok. I'll bob out and get one tomorrow. :y

Some of those I quoted(Fiesta and C3) you could diagnose over the phone. I also think you're reaching with the cause, as my opinion is that it is due to the pigtail design of the springs. It also seems to be a worse problem on the lower mileage cars, and often happens when the car is parked.
-
Well......I suppose I could have snapped a pigtail :-\
Doubt I'd notice :)
-
Ah...but MOT man would...so I can't have.

I didn't think you had MOT's on your cars... Just replaced them when it was due ::) :D

Ha Busted ;D

Thanks, Al........I shall check this out.

Corsa C has suffered two broken springs in less than 30,000 miles. :-\
Could a woman driver be the cause?

The Corsa C that we have got for my lad has had one front spring in its past, its just turned 27k now :o
-
As I said, low mileage cars seem to be worse for broken springs. But I have no idea why that is so.
-
Damp atmosphere around the wheel arch, especially if parked on grass/gravel :-\
-
had made no notable difference to the way the car drove... ;)
Quite clearly a case of not trying hard enough...
TA to write lines, "Must try harder" 200 times ;D

Funnily enough, it cropped up a service after I passed it to another driver, and I only found it as I was changing the pads :-X

I had two go in 50,000 on mine

2.2 is on it's 3rd set of rear springs in just under 100,000 in my ownership.

Not surprised, either way... ::)

Given you had no working shocks for ages, the poor springs took a beating ;D
-
My wife's C 3 has had both front springs break, oddly enough both broke while the car was on the drive overnight.
