Title: Strange Police Cars
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 08 November 2015, 11:15:54
I travel up and down the M5 between Bristol and Taunton quite regularly and I have noticed recently that Avon and Somerset Constabulary have some unusual cars.   :-\

3 strange ones I've noticed recently are a 03 plate silver Vectra unusual because of it's age, a grey Seat Leon and a grey Subaru Forester.  All three are unmarked.  Anyone notice anything similar in their area?  :-\

They definately unmarked Police cars, or just coppers personal cars....?

There used to be a 'proper' unmarked Police car round where I used to live, where it was an beige Allegro but had a Maxi engine installed .... that would catch anything back in the day. All before turbo's and 4X4's etc...

They then got them selves an unmarked RS2000 Escort, that caught me and a couple of mates in our cars.... my car was quick, but that was a lot quicker....

Might not actually be Plod... alot of doctors and first responders here aboots drive 'regular' cars with a small light bar or dash mounted units... quite annoying if you wish to make progress ::)

The Vectra I spotted some time ago when it passed me on the M5 with two uniformed Traffic Officers in it and the other two I've seen in the last couple of weeks in a hurry with blue lights behind the front grills.

If you're gonna have coppers in disguise, then stick them in something totally bland. Makes sense to me.
Most people just pull over when they see a blue light, not audition for a part in 'Road wars'.

Saddens me to read that is so much of your job  :(

Recently been watching Life on Mars (of course lots of 'shooters' and plenty of rolling over car bonnets not typical modern Policing, I'm sure!), but what was nice to see was in the background - large amounts of people sitting at desks, staring bleary eyed, bored senseless going through file after file after file, hour after hour, looking for once tiny something you won't know until you find it.

That all being said, I'm sure Life on Mars isn't exactly a factual documentary regarding Policing, even in the 70s!

Rember you have plain police cars and covert police cars. Both different.
Then there customs+excise cars, the list is endless. ;)

There's a lot of very odd ones round East London

Often see standard Golfs, Scenics, Zafiras, Focuss (or Foci?), Shoguns and the like with blue lights in the headlight and tail light areas, no extra add ons like the 'road wars' cars.

Not sure If some form of response team but they do appear to be in a rush.

I saw a VW transporter a couple of years ago on the A1 near Wetherby flying down the outside lane with the blues but no two's. It's been spotted on the M62 also but I don't know which force it belongs to, unmarked and blacked out windows.

Plod like hiding in Skoda's around here  ::)

Quite easy to spot though  ;)
Just look for the sticker telling them what sort of fuel to put in the tank  ::)
Not the brightest light bulbs in the shop are Blunderside police  ;D ;D

North Yorkshire traffic have a couple of nice Audi A6's in non descript grey which tends to travel up and down the A64 and A1
