Which car/year/engine would help ... but if applicable .. try either pedal check or the paperclip check to get the codes .. instructions are here ... :y :y

Looking at Aiden's old posts, looks like he has a 2.5 petrol.
So do a paperclip test for codes as above, I'd also be looking at the Idle Control Valve (ICV) for any issues.

sorry v6 2.5 1998
-
code came up 2335
-
Don't sound right to me .. for that engine codes should be from this list ....

Could it be you've misread a 57 ?? IACV ??

If the fault genuinely goes away it will clear itself .. other than that you need a plug in code reader.
-
If the EML is still illuminated a fault is still present.
Try removing earth lead from battery for about 1 hour and then start proceedure again, remembering the first set of "flashes" are the diagnostic setting so dont count them.

its code 59

Rear multi-ram valve connected?
-
Could be EGR valve or ICV, for starters
-
still running ok, but eml still on

Rear multi-ram valve connected?

car has been running ok all week failed twice but starts up ok and runs, so every thing must be connected
-
Sounds like it could be egr on its way out, starts off cutting out randomly now and again then over time gets worse, although this generally happens when your coming to a stop, need to clear the codes with any diagnostic tool that has that feature, drive the car for a few days and see if management light comes on and recheck 'stored' fault codes to see if any have been logged but not put the management light on. this will give you a clearer idea of what is going on.
cheers

if I blank off EGR do I disconnect it as well

Only if you want to keep the light on... ::)
Needs to be connected so that the Ecu thinks it's working as it should :y

MAF sensor. The next time it happens, disconnect the MAF, and see if the engine runs. This will put the EML on, but it will extinguish if you reconnect the MAF. The bad news is that a new MAF is quite a costly part.
