Title: A valid point about tax
Post by: waspy on 15 July 2008, 21:50:13
This was taken from another forum i belong to & i think this guy has a very valid point

Both myself and a friend have just acquired 827's, and were having a
rummage around a local breakers for various bits and pieces we were
needing, when we got chatting about fuel tax. So i decided to do some
research. How blind i was.

I have read various letters posted on different sites from various
people that are shall we say `sympathetic' to the governments
current `line' on fuel and taxation. And most of it,
for the most part, is utter nonsense!!

We are given various reasons for high taxation on
fuel, like pollution, global warming, etc. Most of it
is without any foundation whatsoever! We have all
allowed ourselves to become embroiled in this
ridiculous extreme left wing stance that is nothing
more than the governments attempt to, in part limit
conspicuous consumption by, in some way driving us
off of the roads. There is one thing that people tend
to forget and that is that cars are not simply a means
to go from one place to another, oh no. They are a
culture in themselves, and continuous attacks by the
likes of Brown and Livingstone will be met with
nothing more than an extreme counter attack at the
ballot box's, as we have recently seen transpire.

Another reason we are given for high taxation is of
coarse, pollution. Again, we are all being very much
misinformed. The figures are there for everyone to
see, and they are quite astounding. We are given to
think that cars are responsible for something that, is
a naturally occurring event, and would be so even if
we as a civilisation emitted no Co2 at all. Everyone
remember all the fuss years ago about acid rain? We
were all led to believe that our skin would fall from
our bodies. What the hell was that all about? But the
government at the time woke up and saw that you
couldn't lie to the public. That of coarse, was back
when people had a bit of fight in them. Another reason
is what the government describes as so called `limited
resources'. It would appear that they have a very
vague idea of what limited actually is. As things
stand at the moment, at our present consumption, there
is approx 500 years worth of fuel left. This however
does not include about the same amount again that is
currently sitting under the arctic circle, and of
coarse, it is estimated that there is about the same
again that is currently un surveyed. Limited
recourses, I don't think so!, the need for alternative
fuel, don't think so! Then there is the issue of
emissions. Again, we are all being misinformed. The UK
is responsible for about only 2% of all global carbon
dioxide emissions, and of that three quarters does NOT
COME FROM CARS, it comes from heavy haulage and
industry. Mainly industry. This is not merely my opinion, but facts
that have been obtained by independent bodies, facts
that are there for all to see.
Then you have the issue of different taxation classes
for different vehicles. Why? We are told that the most
emitting cars should be subject to the highest taxes.
Apart from being unfair, they would seem to have got
things a bit mixed up as they seem to think that
engine size relates to economy. WRONG!!!! It would
appear that the size of a politicians brain certainly
does not equate to his intelligence. Why of why wont
people take off their blinkers and wake up from this
government induced trance that everyone has allowed
themselves to become part of. The only reason we are
paying the highest prices in the western world for our
fuel is to fill the giant hole in the governments
spending, and to fuel their anti car, fascist ego's,
and they are insulting our intelligence by the reasons
they give us to do it. 75% of what we pay at the pumps
is TAX. On top of ever increasing road TAX, apart from
all the other TAXES we pay relating to every other
part of the industry. People have got to wake up and
vote differently and stop allowing this anti car, anti
private extreme left wing fascism to continue. It's no
good being an armchair supporter, we must all act.

Yes it's easy to think, what the hell can my vote do?. It can do
plenty. Look at what's just happened to sir livingstone. The
congestion charge finished his term in office. This, and other
governments must realise that society creates itself, you cannot
create society.
