Title: conflicting info re:- tracking
Post by: hoj on 20 November 2015, 20:31:18
Right as some of you may have read/commented on a previous post I made regarding wishbones and tracking firstly i have taken it back to where I had it done and the lad who did it has been sacked I have got two new tyres and free tracking done been told its 100℅ now and driving in a straight line

However

Have been enquiring about a full geometry set up and a few places have said it can't be done as there is nothing to adjust and members on here say geometry is a must
Seems as though in my area no one knows either how to do it or what it is??
Don't want to wear my new (free) tyres now do i

Not personally, but they are the local agent for Wheels in Motion so apparently know what they're doing. The last 'tracking' I had done was on my Smart at Radcliffe Moor Road Tyres ...... opposite the Sparking Clog ..... Had no problems with them, but they don't have the kit that Langs have.

Who said there's nothing to adjust?

They are highly recommended by members who have used them.

If they don't think there is anything to adjust then they clearly shouldn't be working on anything bigger than a push bike ::)

I don't think I would even trust them with a pushbike. A badly setup pushbike can be a dangerous thing. :D
A quick glance underneath an Omega should indicate to anyone with even the most basic mechanical knowledge that the geometry is adjustable. Threaded adjusters on the tie rods etc. would be a pretty good clue.
It beggars belief that these people make a living from working on other peoples cars. :o

Rear camber and toe are a single adjustment and therefore a compromise... However one thing is definite, thrust angle MUST be Zero.

For the front, with standard suspension you're looking for a camber of 1 degree, ten minutes, and a toe in of between three and six minutes. Front end needs to be set with the drop arm parallel to the chassis rail.

Nothing to it... :D

It is easy for an amateur mechanic to miss the camber adjustment because you won't see that one of the holes for the bolts that attach the front stub axle to the strut are slotted to allow adjustment.
I  only found out about it on OOF after 5 years of Omega ownership (and repeated assurances by garages that it wasn't adjustable).  >:(

I have used Nigel Langs, and I would recommend them to anybody  :y  I am certain the BMW garage around the corner send their cars there to be "Straightened"   :D

They are more "Senior" Mechanics, and have a wealth of experience there.

There is one chap who does the 4 wheel geometry set up, and has an eye for details and satisfaction and so I was VERY happy when they finished mine.  She goes round the twisty bits like on rails now, and solid and true in a straight line.

Maybe worth making sure the front AND REAR adjusters are well lubed, sprayed and soaked to make life easier.

They may well remember me - Mention the Green MFL Omega V6  :y

I posted my results on my geo set up on here, so search and you will find. http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=123495.0 (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=123495.0)

We've just got a 4 wheel aligned machine at work. Training next week. Can't wait to use it. Will be interesting cos I got mine done at WIM about 4 years ago so wil be nice to see what, if anything, has moved.

To OP, I'd be expecting those rear track rods to be frozen so may need to bust out the red spanner  :y

As others have suggested, for NW England, Nigel Langs does get positive reviews from our members here :y
