Sadly not some pics of women and their vital stats... ::)
Thermostats - hear there's GM, Wahler, and others. What do I need to know? Any to avoid? I read there's some with thinner flanges, requiring shorter bolts, ideally like to avoid that, if poss. What's people's experiences and recommendations, please?
Of course if anyone has one and or the transfer pipe please pm me :)
Ta very muchly in advance, OOFers :y

And it's so easily solved with a couple of M8 washers under each bolt head that it really really really doesn't matter. At all. Bunch of bloody drama queens 8)
I have a Wahler thermostat on mine ( http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-OMEGA-VECTRA-SINTRA-SIGNUM-CALIBRA-V6-THERMOSTAT-HOUSING-NEW/370148171910? _trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140122125356%26meid%3Db36ad3a3bd064a08901aa853f0c7cdeb%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D201247912007 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Vauxhall-OMEGA-VECTRA-SINTRA-SIGNUM-CALIBRA-V6-THERMOSTAT-HOUSING-NEW/370148171910?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140122125356%26meid%3Db36ad3a3bd064a08901aa853f0c7cdeb%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D4%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D201247912007) ) that is clearly the GM part. Even the photos show the half-hearted attempt to grind the GM logo off it. I didn't bother with the transfer tube and was lucky enough to separate it from the old stat without too much trouble.

;D ;D ;D Thats the stat i got

Yep Wahler stat here too and you can split the stat and transfer tube if you are careful, but for £15 or thereabouts it's best to get one, as you have it if you oops up! :y Comes with 2 new O rings as well. ;)
-
yep Wahler here to.
-
Wahler on mine too.Forget how much I paid for it,but it came with new bolts included in the box.IIRC I got mine from eurocarparts.
-
AC Delco here, just to be different... still has the GM part number and logo on it ::), shipped from Jacksonville Fl for half the price of a Vx sourced one.
And it fitted perfectly without any washers or other improvisation ;D

I fitted a genuine GM stat to mine (bought from Evans Halshaw)
The original 2003 stat had a thick flange, the replacement a thin flange.
VX parts system said I would need new bolts, I decided not to order them ::)
A handful of 8mm washers did the job nicely :y

I ordered a genuine from Evans halshaw on Thursday. After much keyboard activity behind the counter it appears the two part numbers representing thick and thin flanges have been superseded by one new number.
Whether that's thick, thin or something else I ve yet to find out. The wife collected it today and I'm not home until tomorrow.
Hoping to better my previous pb of 8 hours for a 'stat change as well.

It'll be 'medium'. ;D
-
AC Delco is just the name of GM parts operation, just like Unipart was BL/whatever and Motorcraft was(is?) Ford.

Eight hours! I resented the roughly 90minutes I spent doing mine!

Ah but last time was my first foray under an Omega bonnet and everything was new and exciting. 5 years further on and it's all too familiar. Even so by the time I've cleaned the breathers and checked the plug wells I'm not expecting change from an afternoon.

For future reference if anyone is searching, the thermostat part numbers for a 2.6 as advised by Evans Halshaw are:-
Thermostat in housing 95517665, Price £40.29 + vat on t/c.
Seal ring 24447061, price £1.21 + vat on t/c.
This 'stat has a 6mm flange. The one I took off (03 elite) had an 18mm flange. I found some slightly shorter bolts but still had to use a stack of washers under the heads :-\
I went to a stealer for the transfer pipe and t/c coolant but asked for the stat thinking they would a, have it in stock ;D and b, give me an exact replacement for my exact engine no ;D ;D ;D,.

Cheers for the info :y
Also I suppose grinding the necessary mm off the bolts is perfectly possible?
