Title: Insignia ECOFLEX
Post by: Andy B on 08 December 2015, 12:47:53
A neighbour has an Insignia ECOFLEX. The glowplug light has been coming back on after starting ie duff glowplug. Another neighbour that works at AN Other franchised  dealer offered to change all four for about £250  ??? which was thought to be a bit expensive considering that glowplugs are generally £15/£20 each. A little research though suggests that ECOFLEX engines use a plug with some kind of pressure sensor built into them. Consequently, glow plugs for this car are more like £100 EACH!!!!  :o :o :o

Just out of interest, who knows what about this engine?

Exactly. I'd expect to change all of them for that kind of money

Depends on the year of manufacture, the Bi-turbo had them from day one but the vanilla 2.0 got them around 2010/2011.

They measure combustion pressures so the ECU can equal out cylinder loads reducing noise and helping fuel consumption, pretty standard tech on the latest common rail stuff.

I have to say that the latest CDTi offerings are proving pretty reliable at the moment

Interesting stuff, always learn from your posts  :y

Does again add into the mix diesel running costs, are these a service item? How long to glowplugs last?  :-\

Set of 4 normal plugs for my 2.2, can be had off the bay or under GM trade for less than a tenner.

£390 buys a shed load of fuel!

To put it into perspective, my bus has just had its first glow plug fail......its just turned 150k miles and Beru ones set me back £28 delivered for four.  :y

That said, clearly they can fail earlier but, on the pressure sensing ones, I would replace them as they fail and not do the full set (its dead easy to measure the resistance of the plug)

My R320 has recently turned 80k & I've changed one of the glowplugs (£20 Beru plug from MB) & the relay (£135 from MB) .... apparently a known problem with the earlier relays hence the change in design

Is a Vivaro a 'real' Vx/Opel or a Renault built under license? :-\

Plumber mate of mine drives one (1.6 BiTurbo?)  Very nice, and has had no problems.  Looks great in Metallic Black.

I've had no problems with my 63plate Transit either (109,000) except it's shit.  ;D  (Mine is Povvo spec though)

Vauxhall / Renault know there is a inherent fault with the Vivaro / Trafic. The ECU faults (or check injection system) has it reports is a known fault. We have a fleet of 38 of the damn things and one by one they go and Vauxhall don't seem to be able to repair them and at circa £24,000(guess there are cheaper alternatives) it is a pretty poor show

Yes, it is a renault. Same with the newest opel combo's. Fiat Doblo in disguise.
