Been there, been frightened petrified ... when it all goes wrong there comes a point during the take off roll that you realise that you are not going fast enough to take off, but are going too fast to stop ... at which point the half-a-crown/sixpence pucker factor kicks in ... some aircraft - noisy pointy things that vary very little in weight from day to day - have acceleration/speed points i.e. if not at speed x by position y on the runway - abort ... a transport aircraft operating from different airfields around the world and at different weights every day does not have that luxury...
In one case I/we only survived because there was a 500 foot downhill drop at the end of the runway that we made full use of ... the aircraft load was some 40% heavier than manifested, and a bored/tired loading officer had signed it off as check weighed when it hadn't been ..... the recovery to land was interesting and took over two hours ...
