Hi all...
I have read the 'How to' on this and it seems pretty clear.
Can I just confirm that the vehicle to be fitted, a 2003, 2.6 CD Auto, is already wired to receive such. I understand its best to get a VX new part, or a used from a reputable source. I assume I would just ask for a 2003 2.6 facelift cruise control stalk, or are they all the same.
I know it will have to be activated by tech 2. :)
Reason for fitting is swmbo wants it fitted, and the existing indicator stalk has started flashing the headlights when used. So may as well swap to cruise control.
-
That's about the size of it :y Worst case, Kevin or TB get some beer tokens ;)
-
Thanks Al....what I wanted to hear. TB could be in the running for that ( nothing against Kevin, just that Brackley is my third home) :y
-
Only 2 stalks, 2.5TD or non 2.5TD.
About £40 trade last time I bought one, but that was a while back.
-
New stalks do feel very nice to use, put a brand spankers in my 2.2 some 8 years ago.
Well worth it :y
-
Whilst it is stripped down for the cruise control, would it be worth putting a stalk on the other side that has intermittent wiper control, or is it a lot of hassle and poncing about. Or is it not possible to upgrade a CD variant :)

I done it on my CD and on this MV6. :y I love that 10 speed little Wheel... I got the stick and replacement relay from Keith B :y

Thanks for the link mate....
I have to say, first part held my attention. Next part totally lost me in the jungle. ;D
I do like the sound of the VW route....I could live with that :y
Edit*****
Just checked E-bay and the same seller as in the link has one for sale for £19.95 + post.
May go that route :y

Fitted the v.w. relay as suggested on here and it works great,,just pull yellow relay out and push new v w relay in....and you can alter the time delay as you drive in the rain.....as explained on here....i did it that way because i am a lazy..b..and just could not be bothered with all of that fuffing about with wires....each to their own .. ;D ;D ;D
-
VW 99 relay is great IMHO .. infinitely variable, easy to set, intuitive to use ... what's not to like ??
-
YES, that VW relay is brilliant (thanks, Essex Big Al for the relay) and the simplest job I've ever done on the Omega - a genuine 5 minute job!
Ron.

Thanks, guys.....VW route for the wipers then :y
Cruise control will be when I get back from Dorset. :y

That would be a big improvement over the the factory Omega 'wheel' adjuster which doesn't give a long enough delay for me - it goes from barely a delay at all to I really wish the delay was twice as long. But then I've never tried an adjustable intermittent setting that was any different.
-
With the 99 relay its a piece of doddle ... use the stalk to give a single "flick wipe" ... when the next wipe is needed just put the stalk to intermittent position .. the time interval between the "flick" and the "intermittent" selections will be repeated continuously. If you need to change the frequency, just turn off, then "flick", then "intermittent" and the new timing is set .. takes longer to type/read than it does to do !!

£19.95 +postage F ..F. .F .. Flippin' hell . . . I had a few of these knocking about in the shed ,used to look in all the VW Golf cars everytime I went to the breakers, gave a few away to Oofers , but may still have 1 or 2 left . You are welcome to one Tony if I can find one. Will look later today. Agreed though . .good mod :y :y

If this works as well as you are all describing I shall be a well happy bunny. :y I came up the A34 yesterday and with only the one intermittent speed, the drive was a nightmare, in some places the wipers could barely cope, and in others, the intermittent was needed but to be honest, bloody useless. !!!!!!!

Does this over-ride the rain sensors or should it be only fitted to pre rain sensitive models ?

I think you'd have to disable the rain sensor first. Can't remember how that is connected, so can't be sure. I think it's some extra gubbins in the engine bay fuse box to remove.
-
What I'd like to see is a means of choosing between both the 99 relay and rain sensing wipers, if that makes sense. I know many will argue what's the point of that, but I like the idea of being able to alter the delay if I so wish.
No different than having traction control on-off switchm I reckon. If your auto wipers are being a bit too 'eager' or 'slow' why not have the ability to alter them?
Sadly I have the electricianing abilities of a caveman, so the possibility/wiring of such a system is something that I'm very much in the hands of better minds than mine.. ;D

Right, can someone please confirm which relay it is I need to swap for the wipers. flyer0712 mentions the yellow relay....Is this the tall yellow relay that is in the triangular relay box next to the battery. The relays, by the wing and reading from the screen end to front are.....purple, yellow, orange, black, green, green, blue, white, space, brown.
I have the vw relay but it is only a square block, nowhere near as tall as the yellow one I refer to. If I am in the right place, and the right relay, do I just pull the yellow one out and just plug the VW in.
Sorry to sound a numpty, but I don't want my car catching fire !!!!!!! :)

the one that you can feel click when your wipers are on intermitant ;) ;)
-
Duh....thanks Andy....I have just found a pic of the relay box on the old site, by Mark. I think I am on the right track ;)
But I will try your trick first. Cheers, mate

I have put a screwdriver in on a little clip at the side, and the yellow relay has come out complete with two big fuses. How do you separate the yellow relay. I can't shift it. Do you stick a screwdriver in and try to prise it off. There are two grey coloured bits on the bottom bit I have tried pressing, but can't see as they do anything. :(
-
Its ok.... I have done it. Brute force and ignorance.....
Geez was that a bitch to separate........
