Title: A White Goods Thread!
Post by: Sir Tigger KC on 31 December 2015, 13:27:48
I've got a Hotpoint Iced Diamond fridge freezer that's probably about 10 - 15 years old and it's started freezing everything in the fridge!  :(

Hoping that the thermostat has stuck I've twiddled the temp knob, but if that dosn't change anything I'm guessing that the thermostat has gone and I need to get and fit a new one.  ???  Frozen butter and slushy beer is no good!!  ;D

TIA!  :y

If it's 15 years old, you know what to do with it, tight arse.

Has it got a 'fast freeze' switch on the freezer?

That's why I'm treating Uncle STEMO's suggestion with the contempt it deserves!  ;D

Don't know why I expected anything else from people who keep old omegas going.  ;D

TBH, given its age, probably worth replacing. Newer ones will be more efficient.

Just get a new thermostat. That's what I did with ours a couple of years back.

No doubt new ones have to use spring water as a refrigerant nowadays, so efficiency has probably gone the other way!

Got a 30 year old Iceland own brand chest freezer here. Bloody thing refuses to die, even after being left outside, wrong way up through a whole winter. I think Im going to have to shoot it to kill it. Wife wont let me get rid of it. ::)
No built in obselecence in those days. ;)
