I now have a radiator fan temperature switch[the one immediately below top hose]this has come with a sealing washer on it which is fair enough.I also have the ecu sender that fits in the coolant bridge, this has come with a metal[?]washer which again is fair enough. To complete the set I also have the sender unit that also fits in the coolant bridge, this has come with no washer/seal at all.Should it have one?According to St.Haynes you should recover the seal[where fitted]so do all cars not have them?Could do with knowing whether I need one or not before I get it all apart to fit these new bits. Also according to St.Haynes the sender unit should be torqued up to18nm,is this critical[like the cam cover bolts]?Or is it a case of just making sure it's tight?

bear in mind the coolant bridge is ally ...... so go easy :y

iirc the coolant sensor doesn't have a seal... :-\

Most old styley temp senders area tapered thread so a nip is good.

Ah,so would seem no seal needed then?Oh,and not going bonkers on the tightening.Cheers guys just need the weather to play ball either tomorrow or Sunday and we're good to go then :y

Are we talking about the ECT Sensir here?
If so a new washer can clearly be seen on my new ECT in the following guide . . .

I think we talk about the dash meter sensor.

I would put a smear of sealant on the threads to be sure of getting a leak tight seal. Don't give it more than a 'nip' else the tapered sender will happily apply enough force to split the ally casting.

Just had a look at your guide Webby, while I've got one of those to go on[it's been too damn cold here for me to be stood at roadside fixing things today]It was the other one with the single wire that feeds dash gauge that I wasn't sure should have a washer/seal on it.As you say Haynes don't seem to state a torque figure for the one in your guide, but they do for the other one and I just wondered if this was a "critical"as with the cam cover bolts.
