Title: Heated seats
Post by: Andy B on 11 January 2016, 19:31:48
No, not in an Omega, but in a Smart

The base heated mat has failed in my Smart. Unlike the Vauxhalls, the base & the back are obviously not in series because I still have a warm back. The Smart has a push switch that toggles on low/on high/off so my question is ........ what's the likely hood of a simple replacement with a generic heated mat? Do seats with different heat settings vary the voltage to the seat?

With a bit of luck, the original mat might be fixable

OE replacement is stupid money because it's part of the fabric like heated Omega leather

I'm surprised you have heated seats in a Smart.

Why?  ;) There's a/c too. Some had auto light & wipers and DRL though mine doesn't have them. Heated seats weren't originally fitted in my car, but I fitted the leather seats from A N Other Roadster along with the associated loom & relays.

I'd have thought an electric biased person might have had an opinion though .......  ::)

Heated seats in a go kart... :o are you soft?

Joking aside, how stupidly expensive are the new ones? It might be cheaper to buy a used passenger seat ane swap the cover on to your drivers one :-\

I didn't quite catch what he'd said. It was either £282 or £382 for the base cushion cover!  :o :o :o Leather seat sets can be sold very easily, so I wouldn't expect someone to split a pair of seats. I'll have a proper look when I get the chance, I might be able to mod a set something like these   http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/registry/wishlist/38G046KM8HOCQ/ref=cm_wl_huc_view  :-\

Not cheap ...... plus they'd need the loom & relays for a retro fit  ;)

I've fixed a Senator & an Omega heated element ....... I hope to add Roadster to the list  ;)

But you have looms and relay in your car already :-\ and then sell the busted ones as non heated or untested... Net cost should be negligible ;)

Sorry .... I misunderstood you. I suppose I could do that ;-) I'll make my mind up after I've had a look inside it. I mean ........ how hard can it be to fix it?   ::)
