Title: fogged up headlights
Post by: sepura on 30 January 2016, 11:50:11
Hope that I am in the right place. My Omega 2.6 auto is suffering from fogged up headlight lenses. and this consequently reduces the light intensity. The units are Xenon we can find lots of halogen replacement units but there seems to be a dearth of xenon. Can anyone please advise where I can obtain both L/H and R/H units?

There is a TIS article saying this happens and is completely normal and not a warranty issue. It also says it should disappear within 20 mins or so with lights on.

I'd probably be inclined to either get a hairdryer in there, or better still, remove the lens and dry everything off. On reassembly, ensure the sealant is good all the way round.

I'm on the Bucks/Oxon/Northants border if you get stuck.

Fogged up with condensation? or yellowed and covered in fine scratches due to age and UV damage?

Have you looked in the maintenance guide section (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90633.0)?

This guide omega headlight lens reconditioning (http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90643.0) may help

When I said misted up headlights I should have been more specific. The actual glass/plastic lenses have glazed over so now gives the appearance of being misted. I need to replace the headlight units both n/s and o/s. Vehicle is fitted with Xenon bulbs. I am trying to source headlight units that will accept Xenon bulb.

Seems to be 2 makes. GM, from dealer, expensive. Depo, from factors, less expensive, not so great.

Makes the options of refurbing yours an option.

Most 2nd hand ones will likely need some refurb, as all polycarbonate lenses suffer over time.

Mine were fogged /misted over, searched for newer ones and couldn't find any that were better so I just done the refurb trick and they're alot better.
It's takes time and attention to detail bit well worth it.  :y
