Title: Lost our old boy Ollie last night.
Post by: 2boxerdogs on 01 February 2016, 13:11:56
Always had Boxer dogs for the last 32 years, got 2 brothers 9 years ago from rescue lost one in 2014 & had to have Ollie put to sleep last night, we knew his time was soon but it always leaves such a gap when you lose a loved pet, hope there are some dog lovers on here who know how I am feeling right now  😭. The only thing that makes it bearable is that we have an 18 month old Boxer we got from rescue 12 months ago but even he seems down at the loss of his old pal.

My sympathies mate.

We have had a cat for 11 years that "hates" us. 18 months ago whilst at kennels she stopped eating. The kennels took her to our vet who opened her up and said "riddled with cancer, best to have her put down". We couldn't do it from afar and said sew her back up. 18 months on she is still leading exactly the same life as before. Still bearly tolerates us though. We also have a dog for about the last two years. He looks up to us and actually likes us. We will be gutted when he goes.

Hopefuly your young boxer will fill the gap.

You have my deepest sympathy, I know how you feel, having had our Cairn put down at 19.5 years old.
Gut wrenching. :( :( :(

My sympathies .. never easy, yet we know when we get a pet that this will be the outcome. Always hurts, yet they give so much love back we repeat it willingly.

Its a sad time to have a dog put to sleep. We had to have our Miniature Yorkie put to sleep a few years ago, he was only 2 years old. He got Parvo at 18 months old and survived it, but he got liver disease and it was best to let him go...

The dog we have now is a rescue Westie and is our last dog when he goes.... I wont have a cat, oppsing detest them...

My thought s are with you.
We to have had boxers since, ooh, I don't know when.
Always hard when a dog passes on but I feel especially so with boxers as they are always puppy mad right up until the very end.
Your yungun will cope and bounce right back, our's did in a very similar situation.

Sad times. But I will bet you will be able to remember all the madcap things that Ollie got up to in his memorable life. That'll make you smile.

Thanks guys feeling a lot better today, had a good long walk with Buddy the Boxer today I can give him all the attention he craves now, would never be without a dog even though they break your heart when they go.

So sorry to hear about your loss. A dog is not just a pet they are a companion, a friend and most of all a member of the family
