Title: Car Aerial
Post by: EMD on 02 February 2016, 14:04:06
Can a better car aerial be fitted for boosting signals/receptions and if anyone has done so which one did you fit  :-\

I've never had any issues with signal in either cars, unless you get one of those things which is about 5ft high can't see it making a massive difference  :-\

Signals around here seems to be poor or the aerial is just not good enough , the signal strength seems to be the problem as when im on the move the stations just keep going all fuzzy  >:( Ive checked all the connections right through to the ones under the parcel shelf so its not that  :(
When i used the Mazda's radio the reception was clear and crisp with no interference on the same radio stations so it has to be the aerial  :-\

The whole back screen is the ariel, wonder if any cracks/gaps in the heated screen element affect the radio? Not to sure how it uses the screen.  :-\

Neither  ???

What i'm considering is disconnecting the aerial from the rear screen and routing an independent aerial either roof mounted or rear wing mounted .

The rear screen Amp and Aerial dont do a bad job if Im honest, could be, bad earth on Amp, no volts to Amp, Cracks / Breaks in rear screen, does it get better or worse with the rear screen heater on / off.

One pictured is bee sting one. That's GM, shark fin looks totally different  :y

Sure some came with it just because, my dads 2.2 came with it. Never has GPS or Phone, came like, that from factory!

Also depends on the base, if just a stick it's GSM only I think. If they have a fatter base, that means they do GPS.

Nothing to do with radio tunes  :y

Car's with phone preparation had the 1/4 wave unity gain antenna (GSM 900Mhz) and telephone prewiring taped up behind the glovebox.

Amplifier needs replacing then...

Out of curiosity, is this the car that you bodged the rear blind into?

I asked as you might inadvertently disturbed the aerial wiring ;)

Could simply be that the amp wiring has worked loose over time... But given as the only way to access it is to remove the shelf, you might as well replace with known good... There's also a connection on the C post behind the side bolster and another behind the drivers kick panel :y
