Title: A Gentlemans Evening
Post by: Darth Loo-knee on 17 July 2008, 16:43:53
If you were to go to a Gentlemans Evening who would you love to see and hear there stories?

Ranulph Fiennes would be my choice, I would love to hear him talking about what I have actually read in his books.
He was on Top Gear one week a while ago and Clarkson was in awe of him :y
The things that he has done.. Topman

Laughed when he said that he and his mate as members of the SAS blow up a damn in the Cotswolds while the orginal Doctor Dolittle was being filmed, then he escaped the dogs hunting him ;D
He then got kicked out ;D ;D

A few I have heard:

Barry Fry (very funny but terrible language)
Duncan McKenzie (great stories about the nasty B-stard Brian Clough)
John Stile (Son of Nobby Stiles, very funny)

Plus some others who were on after the drink had been flowing and I have forgotten about!

Rick Wakeman, ex of Yes.  Thought he was really funny, particularly when interviewed by, I think, Parky.

Had a talk given by a survivor from the Belson Concentration camp on Monday, was quite heavy but so interesting... however being an Isreali from the beginning he is less than enamoured by the British.....

Douglas Bannatyne (from dragons den) really interesting sort of guy who is also a self made man
The hamster (Hammond) out of all of them i find him the most interesting and i think he is great in brainiacs....

the last seat i would leave open, but it would be someone like Hitler-Stalin-Saddam-mao, that may sound like a really stupid idea for a guest but whist they were all slightly mad remember there is a fine line between brilliance and insanity and at some point all of them had the majority of their respective nations complete support

General Sir Michael Jackson, Chief of the General Staff, British Army 2003 - 2006.

An inspirational leader who was not afraid to give his bosses a bloody nose when he felt it was appropriate. He could teach some of the PC brigade a lesson in how to run things firmly, fairly and with a sense of humour.

I would love to hear more of his tales of derring-do about his time in the intelligence corps during the cold war before he joined the parachute regiment.

He is a proper bloke's bloke.

Winston Churchill, alas no longer possible. Of those great, entertainers, again not possible, a trio of Eric Morecambe, Tommy Cooper and Ronnie Barker.
Of those still with us Rab C. Nesbitt would be my choice.

If I could sneek in to a "gentlemans evening" I agree these would be excellent choices, along with Barnes Wallace and Queen Elizabeth I, but as stated not possible no more than me getting in to such an event. :( :(

Shame you don't know what you would be missing!! ;D ;)
