Title: Lowering omega 3.2
Post by: trackcars on 15 February 2016, 22:53:29
Hi all new to this forum.
I have a 3.2 elite Lpg omega and think it's time for some new shocks and lowering springs. Seen a set on the Internet for 4 new shocks and and springs and will lower it 40mm. Just wondering if I will encounter any problems if I do this? I'm looking for a bit lower and stiffer ride. Any help would be much appreciated

Bare in mind Elites have rear Self Leveling Set Up.

Bilstien B4 or B6's work well with the Omega.
Steinmetz or Eibach do a spring set which again work very well on these cars.

Anything lower then 30mm from standard will cause problems when you setup the suspension due to the suspension design and pick up points.

Imho, Omegas was never designed for coilovers so personally I wouldn't go down that route regardless of what bullshit the kit manufactures come out with.

If you really need the harder ride that 40mm springs will bring, you can fit (if you can get your hands on some) a extra set of the rubber pads that the springs sit on thus bring the car inside the 30mm realistic limit  ;)

As ferret features says, remember to blank off the self levelling pipes / pull the pump fuse regardless of what you fit.

Just remember that the Omega weighs in around 2 ton with a lpg tank.
Its never going to handle like a sports car but if setup properly, you will be pleasantly surprised just how much you can throw these cars around and not end up in a ditch / or with a knackered back

Have fun  :D :D

Brill thanks for the info guys. I just want it to be stiffer around bends as it's quite wollowy and bouncy in and out of bends. I used to have a p Reg elite and it was solid in the bends and really flat when turning.
How does the rear suspension work on mine as it just looks like there shock absorbers and springs? Can't see any pipes or anything?

If you do want to go -40mm you can get camber correction bushes, it's just another cost on top of the suspension you have to think about that's all.

I've got the spax -40mm springs fitted and they do fit nice, still a good ride. Standard shocks atm, not sure if I want to upgrade or not! But my rear tyres are suffering!

GM spent millions designing the Omega suspension including a LSC option - do any of these home made modifications really improve things? If you want a sport car why buy an Omega?  :-X

Gm spent millions making a car that would sell to the most people looking for a car in that range, it doesn't mean the car is the best it could be. If anything it just means the car is very boring and average.

Modding a car makes it better to the owner and maybe 0.0001% of people in their opinion so yes it does improve things to the people that want it.

All three of mine have either Irmscher or Eibach springs and B4's.absolutely no regrets about the change  to these, more of an upgrade than a track day option, these cars just are better with a little tweaking here and there, just depends on what your own vision is in regards to usage.IMHO the car just handles better and if you're planning to keep it long term then well worth the effort/cost in doing a bit of fettling :y

This is my 7th omega but my only 3.2 version all the other suspension setups were fine barring the 2.2 one I had with only 52k on it which was worse than mine. I have another car for messing about with but this is only used for long journeys really but just feel that if I put on new shocks and springs standard the car will sit higher and I will still have the same result. That's why I'm hoping if I buy the new shocks and springs it will sit around the same height.
I used the height guide of another website and measured the gap I have now and it looks like they have already dropped around 32mm so hoping the extra 8mm and the stiffer shocks won't make a difference but I've bought them now and will let you no how it turns out hopefully I'm pleased. I've had the car 14 months now so think it's time to change it up abit. Thanks for the input guys.

Max of 30mm on front, 20mm on rear (from standard height - else 15mm front and 5mm rear if on LSC).

I foolishly ignored this on my chavmobile, thinking Irmscher knew better than the forum  :-[, but had to raise it by 10mm after a few months.

The preferred route seems to be Irmscher springs with B4 shocks. Try B6 if you want it much harder, at expense of ride. Irmscher springs are rocking horse shite now, so Eibach seems to be next option. Again, no more than 30mm, and be prepared to raise arse with packers, esp if you want fuel in that LPG tank.

Hi just had a look at my suspension and looks like front are Sachs gm shocks and springs and the rest look standard springs with gas shocks do you's think I should just use the new springs on the rear and change the front over completely?

Which coilovers did you have? My set from eBay were terrible :(
