Title: Didcot Power Station
Post by: Lazydocker on 24 February 2016, 08:14:27
Surprised not to see anything about this on here.

Update this morning said there are still signs of life so fingers crossed.

I'm sure all of our sympathies go out to the families of those involved

It wasn't possible to blame the EU, Cameron or Putin.. so nobody wanted to write about it ;)

Ditto though, sympathies to the families involved.  Aerial shots make it look like one hell of a mess.

Yep, being caught in that mess doesn't bear thinking about. :(

I remember happier times soaring under the nicotine coloured cloud it used to generate.

The pictures reminded me a little of this, also from the recent news (can't remember if anyone posted about this): http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2016/feb/19/explosion-destroys-house-near-york

I used to drive through Haxby every day to get to work..

Haxby is right next to one of our favourite places, the Little Hide...

I may have added 2 and 2 to get 5 but it looks to me as though they were rigging the structure with explosives ready for demolition and it went off prematurely :-\

On the news tonight the Fire Service spokesman was saying that it would be unlikely to find any one alive as nothing has shown up on any of their monitoring equipment. Such a sad situation for their families.

Very sad. :'( That is a big structure to suddenly collapse.

My first thought as well, but "apparently" there were no explosives of any description on site. The latest worry is over the safety of the remaining part as "it had the same work done as the collapsed portion" which, to my simple brain, implies the demolition team might just have taken a "wrong" bit out which caused the collapse ..

Very sad whatever the cause .. :(
