Title: lidl oil change pump £12.99
Post by: omega2018 on 29 February 2016, 17:10:37
offer this week http://www.lidl.co.uk/en/our-offers-2491.htm?action=showDetail&id=31292&ar=1 (http://www.lidl.co.uk/en/our-offers-2491.htm?action=showDetail&id=31292&ar=1)

i use a very similar one, they are great if you are not in a hurry.  if you're concerned they may not get all the oil out,  i used my pump once and then removed the sump plug just to check, not even a drop came out.

mmmmm 0.2 litres/min ... and the Omega holds around 5 litres .. so about 25 minutes to pump out ??? faster to drop the sump plug out !!

And you still have to get under the car to change the oil filter.

it's much faster than than if the oil is hot (up to 60C), what does take the time is getting every last drop out, if you want to do that.

I bought one to see if it would be less messy to get the 20l in the drums unto the more manageable 5l cans.

Clearly, the drum will have to be inside for a day or 2 first...

I dunno, a bit of heat under the drum.  What could go wrong?

What's wrong with one of these  http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Comma-20L-25L-Drum-Tap-Oils-Engine-CCA-COMMA-25LT-20LT-EQDTAP-/330807046198?hash=item4d05a2f036:g:K7MAAOSw~gRVoH6b (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Comma-20L-25L-Drum-Tap-Oils-Engine-CCA-COMMA-25LT-20LT-EQDTAP-/330807046198?hash=item4d05a2f036:g:K7MAAOSw~gRVoH6b)  and a funnel?

If the drum is round then you should learn to pour from it by rolling it along the bench. You do still need the funnel.

That tap seems expensive to me, when we bought drums from Jennychem they used to come with one. I suspect that most industrial chemical suppliers do the same.

My concern with these is as they're pretty slow, are they not likely to leave crud in the bottom of the sump which would be washed out with the oil using the standard sump plug method?

Worth remembering if the pump is shite.  The manual pump was utter shite. No, it was worse than that.

If the quoted 0.2l/min is true, then utter shite will look like an upgrade when you go to transfer 20l! Gravity is more effective, free and doesn't get turned off

The manual one got nowhere near 0.2l per hour.
