It is Mrs 944's new car. Collected this morning.

Our first ever new car and so far I'm very impressed. The engine has a lot of get up and go (1.2tsi) and the 7 speed dsg changes gears without me even knowing.
Also £400 for 3 yrs servicing (inc pick-up and drop off), free car washes for as long as we own the car (max once every 8 weeks) and free "health checks" - the car, not us.
So far, very happy! :y

Is this one of those 'double clutch' jobbies?
Nice car...nice colour. :)

I often wonder how one of those Yetis copes with a 1.2L engine??? especially on the motorway, is it not a tad noisey???
-
Dr Opti - it is, very impressed, I can tell it's changing gear, but only if I concentrate, other than when you boot it and it kicks down of course. I understand they have the potential to throw big bills but our plan is to swap it once the extended warranty is up. We're hoping to have a family soon and I wanted mrs 944 and any little 944's in something reliable and safe. :y

So in DSG form they're great, feels quicker than my 2.2 mig but i suspect what I mean is more responsive. Also I think it's out of puff at 80 (not been past 75 in it so far) unlike my old bus.
In manual guise I suspect it would pi$$ you right off as the DSG is forever shuffling gears to keep up progress. If I was changing gear that much it'd get wearing very quickly.
At the end of the day it's picked for a job, if it were our only car I'd have gone with a bigger engine - probably the diseasle, but it's predominantly for in town work and short journies. The omega (and its eventual replacement) will remain our long distance transport.
-
Oops, forgot to say - noise
The engine isn't noisy at all unless you kick down to overtake something. At motorway speed it's tyre roar that's dominant. Probably because of the daft 18" alloys that are mandatory on the trim spec we chose (I wanted 17's, but no dice).

I quite like em and nearly plumped for one before the Superb. If I had I would have gone for the 2.0 diesel due to the amount of motorway work I do.
Just looking now at the new range of Skodas don't half make so good cars now and darn quick ones too. :y
-
Looks very nice, they have had very good reviews, saw several last summer in Norfolk towing when we were away with our van, diesel ones I would imagine.
-
Not the car I'd choose, but as you say picked for the job,so all's good.they do get some very good reviews and {is this a recommendation :-\]even Jeremy Clarckson liked it : :o

Yup, they've done really well at carving out a niche in the VAG offering. In n ideal world I'd have a superb L&K 280. But having looked at the PCP deal they seem to go from £35k -> £14k in 3 years :o. I just don't have £7k/yr to whizz up the wall in depreciation. Approved used at 3yrs old on the other hand - now thats a different story!
What Superb did you go for?

Yup, swmbo's dad and his wife have a 2.0 diesel manual to tow their caravan. They love theirs and are swapping it for a new one this year.

I just went for a 2014 2.0 SE Diesel. 140BHP 60+ mpg and with the motorway mileage I do its saving me £££ and halved my fuel bill :y :y :y
-
A lad at work swooped his devil's juice Fabia for the the 1.2 petrol after dpf issues started appearing and he was quite impressed with the engine :y
-
I was very impressed last year on a day trip in a Yeti where I drew the short straw and ended up in the back! It was comfortable and seemed to have plenty of 'go' when required. :y

Definitely the intelligent choice for the superb, low running costs and all the benefits of the superb's comfort and quiet running. Its odd though, for myself I would only want a new car if I could have the top of the range. Peculiar I know, but there we are :P
Sir Tigger, Yup, for a small car they are surprisingly spacious. I think its because everyone is in that 4x4 "sit up & beg" position. I gave it the "sitting behind yourself" test and was pretty comfortable - I'm a hair over 6'0". Also, the rear seats have a couple of stages of recline which helps a lot!

Sisters got a 2ltr tdi 140
Her and the kids absolutely loves it and has been faultless since she has had it
-
All this talk of Skoda.
You lot seem to forget that a proper Skoda has the engine at the back, and is made by communists in Czechoslovakia. :D :D ;)
-
Really? I thought they had the engines in te middle and were 2 wheels short of what might be considered a full compliment ;).
-
I had to raid my piggy bank today as the Superbs tax was due.....£30 :D :D :D

Skoda have replaced VW in the I just want a decent quality sensible car at a reasonable price bracket(where the Golf always used to live) since VW decided that they were an almost premium brand and cranked their prices up.
VAG is the reverse of British Leyland; their badge-engineered cars are a properly integrated range, cleverly disguised by good marketing. Just look at how many people find it hard to believe that an Octavia is the same car as an A3.
-
Agreed, I dot see a single reason to buy a VW product now. Having looked at both when deciding to go with skoda, there was no way I could justify the price difference - unless there's some VW "quality"'that I'm too much of a heathen to see ;D
On a separate note, I'm in Norway ATM and have been given the EXACT car we had as our second choice and rejected (mainly due to park assist only being available on the top model that's £200 PCM more!). The Nissan qashqai, same spec level, color, everything except with a manual box. After 400km in it in a single day, all I can say is boy I'm disappointed! Seats have no lumbar support, interior feels tacky, although it does have orange neon lights ::)
Really can't understand why we as a nation buy so many of the poxy things!
-
Sorry to piss on the parade, but your Yeti Is a Vw product...
::)
-
Yes Harris, I am aware it's all VAG underneath ;). I meant something specifically wearing a VW badge.
The company would have you believe they are a cut above skoda and command a premium because of it. What I meant was I don't see that premium over a skoda of lower price. Is comparing an Octavia to a golf.

Also the same ;D

Nice choice. It fits your brief, so why not?
I had a 1.2TSI Golf as a hire car in Fuerteventura earlier in the year and I had a 1.6TDI Audi A3 a few weeks earlier. I'd have the 1.2TSI over the Derv any day of the week (and fuel economy wasn't as different as many may think).
Both cars were shit, though.
I've never had a shot in the Yeti, but I hope it suits your needs well. :y
