Quick search on e-bay throws up an AC Delco kit for £64, and a Monidex kit from Latvia for £39. Any comments? Could not find the Amazon Dayco kit.
-
Personally I would stick with GM or get a genuine Gates kit.
-
The last time I looked on e-bay for one there was a Goodyear kit for £44 odd, didn't see the Latvian one you've seen.I can't find the dayco kit on Amazon either.I've got to get round to ordering one myself along with an oil cooler.Just undecided as yet which kit to order, one thing's for certain it'll not be one for £100 or so!
-
I'd stick with Gates. For your car there can be a few suitable kits. Can you tell your chassis number (vin), I can check it

Thanks, VIN no. is WOLOVBM35Y1166231. In the past I have put a low mileage 3.0 kit on my 3.2 and it fitted OK. I think any kit will do, and being a miser I go for the cheapest. One day I shall come unstuck, then all members may laugh. But the car only cost me £302, last belt change, previous owner forum member ajsphead believed, was 5 years and 38000 miles ago, only record I have is Mr. Simon Davies t/a Just VW, saying 'New MOT & oil change, receipt for cambelt' and attached is an invoice from WRS Motaquip for K0245453XS timing belt'. So make of timing belt, and whether it was ever fitted, are uncertain. The car is a facelift 2.5 CDX manual petrol estate in wonderful condition, no rust, so cambelt change seems sensible.
-
Gates, SKF, Contitech, etc. are all identical to genuine GM for all practical purposes. All have the same SKF bearings on the idlers (the important bit). I'd imagine the Delco one is decent, as they are a GM brand, IIRC.
The Latvian one sounds too good to be true, but only way to tell would be to suck it and see.

That's expensive :o

I paid £110.00 for GM timing belt kit on the 3.0, that was discounted.

Thats still expensive ;)

I only ever fit Gates on all my cars!! Never trust cheap belts as if it breaks your in for more than £110 to repair.
You pays your money you takes the risk........
-
Got a Gates kit for my 3.2 elite off the bay for £101.66 delivered. Worth shopping around a bit to get a proven kit. If it breaks I would say it's gonna be scrappin' time. :-[

Mmm, compared to what? :-\
Where do you get Dealer or Gates for less?
-
I have got good deals from carpartsconnexion. Always worth a check
-
I just go with VX - just over £100 for the genuine kit and I really don't want one to fail as that's end of car.
-
Contitech thery seem good quality and I personally have had no issues :y
-
The last 2 kits I bought from a Vx dealer came in plain boxes, unlined belts, and without instructions. When fitted the belts howled (made a noise varying with engine speed) when cold. James V6CDX suffered a similarly noisy belt, which I believe has now settled down. I had a similarly noisy aux belt on my Clacton 2.5, which I eventually cured by changing the belt.
The GM V6 engine is a fine unit, made we learn at Ellesmere Port (thanks for video). The cam belt kit market must be considerable. With modern communications I buy wishbones from Germany and exhausts from Poland. I now have a cambelt kit coming from Latvia. Watch this space.
-
Latvian cm belt kit has just arrived; it clearly is not the kit for a V6. Bother. I had llanned doing the job this weekend. How much are Vx TC kits?
Pic follows.

Where are the rollers? :-\ :y

Looks like a Gates belt but where is the Gates box?

I wonder why they advertised that as fitting an Omega 2.5?
Will it fit a 2.2? Jonny's 2.2 is due a cambelt change.
Returning to e-bay Vehicle Parts I found redlinecarparts offering an Omega 2.5 tining kit at £26.50. Man says it will fit my car. Furthermore he is in Somerset, in fact in Cheddar, 10 miles away. I might fit it this weekend yet.

Don't think thats a complete kit - check their web site!! Belts on their own are around that price, kits are around £150. ;)
-
Many thanks dbug. You are right. Back to square one.
-
No probs - save you a wasted 20 mile journey ;)
You're better off buying either a GM kit, or a Contitech/Gates/SKF via a factor or online, than looking for a real cheapo on ebay.
-
Is this one any good?
Does anyone know the cost of a GM trade club kit?

Looks about right, and the price is reasonable.
But do yourself a favour and stop making it difficult for yourself: buy one from a local shop where they hand it to you over the counter. If that costs a few quid extra, work out how much time you've spent faffing about already.

Looks like a 4 pot 8 valve kit to me (Omega A, Cav, early 2.0 Omega B, Astra)
-
What's wrong with this? :-\ Check your engine number, although I think the only differences with belt kits for the X25XE are with the back plate? :-\ I'm sure someone will confirm one way or the other. ;)

Have you tried eurocarparts they have the ContiTech kits from £110 but with 25% off at moment so £83 delivered or click and collect . Offer ends tomorrow.

Thanks to all for advice. In the end I bought an INA kit for £82.88; fitted it yesterday (had to change the back plate) and car runs OK. e-bay prices range from £82.88 to £170.
This AC Delco remains a mystery. I said I would take it if included the idler pulley, not shown in the picture. Seller said all that the box contained can be seen in the picture. I cannot believe that any kit would not include the idler pulley, but there you go.

Please, for the love of god, please stop buying branded tat from egay. Chances are, it will be a cheap Chinese copy... ...which is fine if only paying £20 for it, and you accept its a risk.
A stat from within the IT trade 2 or 3 years back showed that over 95% of all branded goods on ebay were fake.
There are many reputable factors and online sellers (usually backed by bricks & mortar) that will provide genuine branded items at reasonable prices. Unfortunately for some of those drinking Northamptonshire water who cannot accept otherwise, ECP is not one of them, based on my own and other collective experiences.

Yes sir, I hear what you say. Plesae advise me: I need a cam belt kit and water pump for Ben's 2.2. Where should I buy them?

Not owning a 2.2, never have had any Omega without the full complement of 6 cylinders, I'll leave that for the 4 pot owners to say definitively where they got their's from :y
My v6 ones have always come from dealer (on TC), SAF/Buypartsby, or local reputable independent factors.
On a 2.2, pay particular attention to water pump, and if in any doubt, replace that as well, as its cambelt driven.
-
When I ran 4 Senators, I bought everything from Bellinger Vauxhall (Grove) trade club. Running 6 Omegas I am not so sure. I bought 2 TC cam belt kits, plain boxes, both faulty, later I bought a 2.5 crank sensor TC to replace an e-bay cheap one for fear of imminent failure, after 3 weeks Vx sensor failed. Bellingers are no longer trade club, too small, but I still call occasionally. I have not found Vx parts infallible.
We should be sitting in my car at High Wycombe now you recoding my key.
Pic follows of penultimate Senator departing.

GM or Gates (genuine source) Ebay to risky for something like this
-
Well said TB. From personal experience don't use a pattern pump on the 2.2. I fitted two pattern pumps (don't say a word!) to our Astra and both failed, the second was fitted as a warranty for the first. In the end went OE + New belt kit and not had a problem since
If your looking for cheaper genuine parts and can get the correct part number then either try Genuine Parts Search or Car Parts Connections. These sites list only dealer Ob stk.
Cheers
Andy

Is there a moral here? The INA kit which I spent so much effort finding, bought for £82, and fitted to my car over the weekend, has just been discounted to £58.87, so e-bay tells me. Am I still interested?

VX on trade club with the water pump, its a tiny cost in cost of running the car and then you just know its good :y
