...from aviva, 50% increase in premium. Told ya we'd pay for the floods. Time to go compare.
-
Yep I got a 25% increase on my renewal with LV.....
I got compared and got it waaaaay cheaper than last years premium too.....
-
I have been with LV for around 20 years now ( extra discount for civil servants ) for the last 3 years my premium has come down by 10% each year ! It will be interesting to see what happens this year.

Insurance companies best friend is complacency. Over the years I have saved several thousand pounds by shopping around every year for insurance. being a business owner I not only have my personal circumstances to insure but also my business this results in me having to insure about sixteen risks a bit of a pain but when it come time to renew but well worth the effort :y

Hmmmm.....some of the quotes I'm getting are very high....

Welcome to my world ;D
Insurance in this little country has risen by anything between 75 to 150 % in the last couple of years . Last year the cartel of major players decided to decline insurance on cars older than 15 years and evidence is creeping in now that this year the cut off has been revised to >10 .
I was really upset at the quotes , and disinterest , that I was getting when trying to secure insurance for my 16 yo Omega .
However , seek and ye shall find . After an eternity on the 'phone I found one of the national banks offering a deal for an all boxes ticked comprehensive for less than I paid 10 years ago. All paid for and in place now :y
I'm sure you will get a reasonable quote but you'll have to work at it to find it.
I'd say that, like over here , rampant greed has become the mantra of your insurers and underwriters who having you in a captive and ring fenced market , can do what they wish with premiums and blame it on whatever reason they wish.
It's possible that with a little push your government will look into the reasons for these absurd hikes but then again, like here ,they are gaining from it too.....
-
Yes, I remembered your previous post when I got my renewal.
-
I always shop around. I wanted my insurance to start on 1st Feb this year & I usually get quotes of £240-ish, but this year I was gob-smacked at the quotes. last year Hastings was my insurer & I declined their renewal ( over £600 ) and shopped around via go compare & settled for £288 & my policy ticks all the boxes including a proper breakdown cover. Guess what its with Hastings. About £ 240 cheaper than my renewal quote.
-
I've just had a quote from Hastings direct. My 1.4 astra, 62 years of age, 15000 miles, wifey as named driver.........£544......... :o
This is looking grim. £640 from aviva for both cars is actually starting to sound reasonable. :(

Cheaper to take the fine and 8 points. :P

6 points :)
Even better, thanks :y
When I get pulled, I'll say 'I was gonna get insured, but some traffic cop told me I'd be better just taking the points as it's so expensive these days'. ;D
-
Mine has gone up X 3 on the Discovery, when the renewals due, last time £150 quotes now are north of £450 on restricted mileage. The Skoda & SWMBO's Fiesta are due next month and I'm looking at about £1200 the pair :o :o :o
-
Just had a google as to why it's happening, apparently the average comprehensive policy is now over £800. According to several financial sites, ins cos haven't made a profit for the last 20 years, what with floods and the like, and are really going for it this year.
Also, if you pay monthly, they are hitting people with a charge of up to 50%APR.
-
The reason it's gone up, yes to pay for the flood, and the insurance companies know that all cars need to be insured, were as houses don't, hence put all the cost to the motorists,.
Yet again the motorist pays. :(

Never looked at it like that, could very well have hit the nail on the head.
-
These quotes make my quote for the Zed look good :o, my best quite so far was £950 with all mods declared.

Houses have got to be insured if you have a mortgage, and that is getting hammered too. We're moving house soon and we've just had a buildings and contents quote of over £600.
-
I've just filled in the quote form for a family fleet policy which one of you guys passed details for a week or so ago with Zenith Marque, I'll let you know what comes back :-\ :-\ :-\

It's not law, they recommend, advise.
If you cancel the policy, they don't fine you,or take you to court.
As long as you pay the mortgage, bank don't care.

Just done a check . . .coming up on go compare at £220 full comp with the Co-Op for the 3.2 with SWMBO on it :)
No breakdown cover on that though . . .so same as last year with Hastings. I have found you just have to move insurers
every year now as existing insurer renewal quotes are usually at least double the previous year ::) ::)
-
I was pleasantly surprised with my renewal, I thought it'd go up so had been on the compare sites prior to receiving the renewal.
It's just landed at my door and not only beats the online prices it beats their own quote on there and is alot cheaper than last year sub 300 quid again. . :y

Email response from they today -
Unfortunately, we do not deal direct with the public. To obtain a quotation you would need to go via one of our insurance brokers.
:-\ :-\ :-\
-
Did you go via REIS or straight to Zenith?
-
Straight to Zenith :-\ :-\ :-\
-
Go to REIS :y
-
Just got my insurance sorted our for the 370, £598 fully comp, about £400 cheaper than before :y

Go to REIS :y
Are they any good? I might well be looking for a fleet policy for our cars at home :-\
-

Went on gocomperethemarket etc., for quotes and now find there have been 18 searches of my credit report. WTF makes them assume that I was going to pay monthly? It's getting worse...I heard that soon landlords can view and contribute to your credit report, that won't end well for some people.

Soft searches I'd hope.....

6 points :)
I thought STEMO was correct in what he said about taking the 8 points, so.....
If you take a FPT then I presume it is then 6 points, but if you end up at Court, then they can impose 6-8 points.
No insurance always used to be between 6 and 8 points at Court appearances; that was before FPT's were introduced for the offence which removed the need to attend Court. However between 6-8 points can still be imposed at Court appearances apparently.
According to Gov.UK anyway.....

They've been great to deal with for me - real humans who seem .. human. A friend also uses them for his fleet (which was a 997 911 C4S, Omega DTi, Porsche 928 and RX8 and is now minus one Porsche plus one Gallardo) and has no complaints that I know of.
The best thing was the form you fill out took all of two minutes (it's an editable PDF) and submitted via email with the quote by return. No annoying online forms, hurrah!
IIRC he's also used their recovery service which was pretty decent (included in the cover).
They were also the only people I found who understood both the Ranger not being a "work" vehicle and the fact that it's leased (not PCP or PCH)..
-
I'll have to have a look at that then.
Just one question, dunno whether you'll know the answer - If you put all the cars on one policy i.e. my Skoda, Disco & the wifes Fiesta ....do they keep the NCB earned seperate OR will one be lost???? Its just for future thinking if they, like other companies decide to put up their prices and I decide to move insurers, will wifeys NCB will still stand???

My policy docs have a separate NCB listed for each vehicle so I think they stay separate, not sure how it works with multiple drivers though - I assume each persons NCB would stay with "their" vehicle for later use..
-
I asked a similar question many years ago, when I had two cars, only to be told that each vehicle, although on different policies, has to earn its own no claims bonus. So later that policy year, one of my cars was broken into and at the time was quite costly to repair the damage, so I thought I'd claim, and then sell the car when repaired. At renewal, the premium on my remaining car had shot up, only to be told that any claim affects both vehicles no claim discount(??!??).
A heated discussion took place, but I lost, with them saying that I had had a claim, although it wasn't on the remaining policy. What's the point of earning their individual NCB then? They have got you by the short and curly's.
Not sure whether this still applies to multi car policies, but anyone with one would be well advised just to ask the question......

All exactly as I would expect? Have I misunderstood your point?
-
I was saying that I think it is grossly unfair that each vehicle / policy has to earn its own no claims bonus, when in the event of a claim on one, both policies are affected. In my particular case, one policy had full NCB, the other probably 1 or 2 years (time has now got the better of me!). As I was thinking of selling the car with the lesser NCB, when it got broken into, I decided to claim on the policy as at the time I was going back to one car, and it wouldn't really have been an issue to loose the 2 years as I was just keeping the one car (and you could only keep any NCB earned for upto 2 years and if not used on a subsequent policy, you lost it). If you are paying two premiums with relative NCB's and a claim is made on one, then surely it should only be that policy that is affected.
Turning it around, if you have full NCB on one car, a second policy should have a full NCB if they are going to penalise both policies in the event a claim on one.
Hope that's put my point over!

Your mistake was using the word "fair" when talking about insurance, sadly. ;)

Right....a resolution at last. I went on avivas website and put in all the details, exactly the same as my renewal document. Got a quote for £399, £250 less than my renewal. Bought it. Rang aviva to tell them that I didn't want to renew and that I had already renewed for £250 cheaper. She asked who with so I told her.....you. Oh......have you got the new policy number? Yep...it's xxxxxxxxxx.
Let me check....yes, that seems all ok. Right, I'll cancel this one then (deep sigh)
Thank you, bye. ;D ;D

Got an email from aviva last night, asking for proof of no claims, so I sent them their own renewal letter.
