Since its that time of the year, what are the good old members of OOF claiming off the taxman this year :y :y
For me, since i'm affectively on the books with 2 firms and have been paying emergency tax / NI contributions on the shop fitting / merchandising job since last November, I know i'm due a few quid back next month :y :y
Question is ................ what else can I claim back ?
Food allowance ?
Clothing allowance ?
Night / shitty shift workers allowance ?
Anything else ?
I believe you don't have to show any receipts for the first claim :-\
Feel free to stick down any info on this thread (but keep to the subject please or it will go on forever :-X)

Shaft the taxman? Isn't that shafting your fellow citizens?! ;D
A better phrase might be what can I legitimately claim to reduce my tax bill. Isn't there anything online for your line of work?

I don't know but the wrote to me recently to increase my tax code significantly so I think it might be me getting the shafting this year!

To me, the taxman is like a dose of crabs I got back in the 80's after shagging a dirty woman in sausageland ::)
Just when you think you have got rid of the irritating little tinkers, they come back with vengeance just when you least expect them ;D ;D ;D
Yup, i've had a read of the HMRC website and after been directed to about 20 different pages, I spat my dummy out and stuck a post on here :y

Food allowance ? - Subsistence and Accommodation only if working away from Home Area or normal working Area, Receipts required.
Clothing allowance ? Protective Clothing / HSE Requirements etc. Work Trousers, Fleece, Weatherproof, Gloves, Overalls, Hats, Hard Hat, etc, all needs Receipts / Invoices, or you might get away with Introducing it at a cost if its your Start Up or First Trading year etc.
Night / shitty shift workers allowance ? No.
Anything else, Vehicle, Car, Van (be carefull here) Possible Millage or some Fuel Costs, Service Items, Maintenance, depends how you do your Traveling set up. Ladders, Steps, Tools etc, Training / Courses in connection with your Trade or HSE Requirements. Specialist Equipment Hire, plus other stuff that I cant think of at the moment.

No longer registered self employed
Always work away from home
Accommodation (B&B) provided but sometimes we have to pay for breakfast and claim it back as expenses
Sometimes I use the Omega which must have business insurance iaw the company who I work shop fit for rules.
Other times, I get a hire car which arrives with a full tank and has to be returned as such. That fuel is returned under expenses
A company uniform was supplied at a cost of 50 quid but other stuff like working trousers / gloves ect come out of my pocket.
I've been told that a laundry allowance is claimable ?
How about omega servicing costs and car insurance ?
Also just been told in another place that for the 1st year, you don't have to show receipts. Only in the following years

Ummm....aren't you a bit late...tax returns have to be in before Jan 31st ;D
But maybe Im missing something as your not self employed anymore :-\

I always liked to get them in early :)
I`m not self employed anymore so I don`t need to think about it now :y

For those who are on the books of a company, wear a company uniform, I suggest you look into claiming your laundry bill and other things back ;)

I also suggest you set up a online tax account too.
Saves spending a piggin fortune listening to greensleaves while on hold to the tax office ;)

sundries such as a first aid box, also designated space at home in which you use to do your books. heating ,lighting ect. but not sure how that would if not self employed. goodwill gestures to clients, meals, flowers, choccys.
