When transferring oil from 20L drum into smaller 5L bottles I managed to spill some on the garage floor. ::)
I've mopped it up as much as I can with paper towels, it's left a slippery surface there now, what's best method for cleaning/removing it? :-\ :-\
The floor was sealed then painted a couple of years ago now.

Ermmmmm........warm water. Detergent......soapy stuff? ;D
-
Water would just sit on top of the oil, not actually remove it?

No... Back to school... Oil is molecularly lighter than water and will float off the floor and rise through the water and pool on top... If you thought the floor was slippery now, just add water ;D
As STEMO says, washing up liquid, hot water, plenty of kitchen roll and a stiff brush. Job jobbed :y

tomorrow's job then :D

Use the washing up liquid neat, and scrub with a stiff brush.
Rinse away with warm water and another brush.

Climbing on Mr. Tunnie's back (NOT literally!), what is the recommended method of removing oil stains from a concrete driveway? I've tried Gunk and similar products, butno improvement at all.
Ron.

Neat washing up liquid, steel brush and boiling water...
Obvious caveats re working with boiling water ;)

I've used Gunk's Path Clear with reasonable reults :-\

A real 1st world problem :)
Use oil,sorb granules
-
Salt, Washing Up liquid, boiled water, rub it all in and then borrow next doors hoover. Put the hoover on deep pile carpet mode.
-
In Tunnies case,an aerosol of brake cleaner and some kitchen towel will make good :y
-
I wouldn't trust a wire brush or brake cleaner on my painted garage floor. Washing up liquid and a cloth, five minute job for Mrs T.
All very technical innit? ;D
-
Daz Automatic washing powder ;)

Wire brush is a specific requirement for brick/concrete driveways..
Painted floors as above ;)

I wouldn't get Daz involved, He'll have you engine apart the minute your backs turned.

If you turn your back on him, it won't be your engine that gets serviced...... ;D

Speaking from experience? ::)

Bicarbonate of soda.
Make a thick paste (toothpaste like) and chuck a load on and grind it onto the surface. Leave for 24 hrs and scrape/wash off.
We're using it to draw a bad oil stain out of the butchers block in our kitchen. Works a treat but it's deep enough in that it's taking a few applications.

How about oil on tarmac? ???

How about oil on tarmac? ???
No chance ;D makes very nice black gravel...

Tunnie - I do similar all the time, and I wipe up what I can, without spreading it too far, spray neat screenwash on it (as its what I have handy), leave it for a while, then wipe up. Repeating if necessary. I can see neat Fairy working better, although probably couldn't spray it so would need to use an empty handwash bottle maybe?

What's wrong with the squirty bottle it comes in?

Sorry, I meant I use one of those el-cheapo spray bottles that the likes of Wilcos and other pikey shops sell for about 60p, which gives good coverage. The fairy bottle would give more dollops and lines, involving effort to cover all the oil... ...so that rules me out ;D.
Seriously though, you would have to rub it in a bit, or use excessive amount, if you did it that way?

Thought as much and that's why I asked. Thought there might be a pearl of wisdom! :-\ ;D
