Title: Omega 2.2 timing belt tensioner confusion clock wise or not
Post by: krabi_one on 18 April 2016, 20:27:57
Hello
I just replaced the timing belt on my 2.2 and I was using DVD
On DVD the new tensioner is tensioned clockwise (when new belt)
now I was searching about timing belt change "Haynes" etc. show to always tension the tensioner anti-clockwise
should I check the tensioner and do it anti-clockwise ?
here is some post about Anti-clockwise http://www.courtenaysport.co.uk/blog/2014/09/cambelt-and-timing-information-z20lex-engines/

what should I do, just leave it or correct it ?

When you turn it anti-clockwise the pointer will swing clock-wise, do so until the pointer is on the right hand side of the back plate (base plate) tighten the adjuster MAKE SURE ALL TIMING MARKS ARE LINED UP then rotate the engine a couple of times.  Align the timing marks up again then slightly back off the locking nut on the adjuster and slowly back off the tension until you reach the correct mark.  lock up, check timing, rotate again, check tension.
When you have it right you will be able to rotate the engine many times slowly fetching it back to the timing marks and find that the adjuster is pointing at the correct mark.
