Title: Would you let your 12 year old do this?
Post by: CaptainZok on 21 July 2008, 16:53:29
clicky (http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/s/1059028_police_to_quiz_burns_boy)
Apparently he managed to saw into an 11KV live cable.
Has caused chaos at work 3 lighting gen sets hired in, our depot running on the backup genny in the yard this morning which has subsequently died so who knows what kind of mess tomorrow morning will bring if they can't get the generator running again.

Couldn't say mate. ::)
Apparently it's the 11KV supply to our depot and the mill next door.
They had removed what they thought were the fuses but were unpleasantly surprised. ;D
Pity his dad wasn't holding his hand when he hit copper.
How many amps is a hacksaw blade rated at anyway? ;D ;D

Its the father that needs a beating.....what the hell is he thinking of taking a 12 year old to steal copper cable and then being so guilty he takes him home before calling the ambulance!

As for the feed, these feeds are left live on the main supply as a rule and then the fuses or circuit breaker removed or disabled (you dont tend to sue fuses on high current supplies due to the V drop across them) before the site transformer feed (although an old mill may well have some 11KV machinery!).

Knicking lead in Swindon seems quite rife at the moment.......I quite often see kids in their late teens/early twenties riding about on push bikes in the town centre...at the rear of shops......looking up at the roofs......not hard to work out what there looking for  ::) >:(

Obviously without firm facts I can't say for sure, but had it been proved that this was the intention, it wouldn't surprise me if the father had put his son up to it, because he was too cowardly to do it himself...
in which case, it is he that should be on the recieving end of your recommended punishment :y

That's a shocking story. Did you find it in current affairs?
