Title: Got me a big old cat to play with
Post by: powerslinky on 24 April 2016, 16:34:37
Probably brought a heep of trouble here . . .but you never know  ::) ::)

Got hold of a fair condition   2001  4.0  Jaguar Sovereign  for peanuts .  MOT until December . . no previous problems on the MOT history, only silly previous

advisories like  tyres, wipers , number plate light etc.   Autobox all seems good ,big problem with these I think.  same owner last 12 years ( he's just brought a

newer one  ;)  Has reams of history from his ownership. Would not let it go in part ex as offer was insulting he said.   EML is on with a small intermittant misfire

Biggest problem  ?   how am I going to hide this on the drive  without SWMBO seeing it    ::) ::) ::)

Let you know more when it comes home next Saturday  . . .if I'm alive to tell   :) :)

Al, why not cover it in fancy wrapping paper and tell her it's a present for her - NOT to open it until told.....

Ron.

That would cost me more in wrapping paper than what the car cost  . . ;D ;D ;D ;D

Looking forward to playing around with this  . . .never had a Jag before   :)

Main problem gearbox wise is I think because thery're the "sealed for life"variety and Jaguar would not sanction its dealers to do a fluid change. Can be done at independent specialists but quite expensive I believe. In the history is anything noted about timing chains/tensioners being uprated to 4.2L spec ones? Early tensioners were plastic and broke up,upgrade was to plastic and metal ones which broke up!4.2L items finally cured this.

Guffer  worrying statement from you there Mr. Guffer ::) ::) ::)

BazaJT  had me head in the PC all weekend on the jag forums  . . . think the chain issue has been addressed.  Gearbox seems fine to me  ::) ::)

now who wanted a Black 3.2 MV6 ? ;D ;D ;D ;D  second thoughts  . .better keep it for moment  . . probably end up sleeping in it when SWMBO finds the Jag :'( :'(

Any suspension "clonks" generally easy and cheap to sort.If from front chief culprit usually top damper bushes-one in engine bay on top of inner wing other in wheelarch.Cheap to buy dead easy to replace.knocks on rear tend to be lower damper bush again cheap and easy to fix.The X300 I had for 6yrs was cheap as chips from the point of view of spare parts it needed as it barely needed more than oil/filter changes. In fact I still have two used offside exhaust back boxes for X300/X308 in the shed!
